Steve Hertling is a 1970 graduate of CWU. He was inducted into the Wildcat Hall of Fame in 1993. An outstanding kick returner, running back and defensive back, he set 14 school records and earned four letters between 1966 and 1969. He was a three-time Evergreen Conference all-star, earning first team honors at running back in 1967 and 1968 and at defensive back in 1969. Steve is a former CWU Foundation board member and a former Wildcat Club board member. After a six- year teaching career, Steve became a successful real estate broker in Oak Harbor, Washington and later in Surprise, Arizona. He is married to CWU 1971 graduate Cheryal Hertling. Steve and Cheryal have been donors to CWU for decades. Steve recently committed a significant gift to support the CWU football program and the athletic training program. For Steve’s outstanding contributions to the CWU football program, to the entire university as a volunteer board member and in recognition of his role as philanthropist supporting future generations of CWU students, we recommend the following motion: The Board of Trustees of Central Washington University hereby approves the naming of the athletic field in Tomlinson Stadium as Steve Hertling Field.
