People in the Story The people in realistic fiction books are called characters.
Who is telling the story? When we read fiction, we can notice who the narrator is. A narrator is the person who tells a story. In Yikes! , the boy who falls and breaks his leg is the narrator. He tells the story about what happens to him. How can you tell the boy character is telling the story? Notice that he uses the word I as he tells what is happening. He is telling the story from his point of view. Using I , the boy tells readers what he does and how he feels about the things that happen to him. Think About It! In other fiction stories, a narrator may tell about the characters using words like he , she , they , and them . Using these words, a narrator who is not one of the characters tells the story.
