50TH ANNUAL CENTRAL MINE RESCUE COMPETITION
Five mine rescue teams from Alaska and the Lower 48 competed in the 50th Annual Central Mine Rescue Competition in May in Juneau. Teams from Greens Creek, Kensington, Pogo, Galena and Lucky Friday competed in critical safety disciplines including field competition (search and rescue), first aid, benching (breathing apparatus testing and repair), tech team (gas detector testing and repair, and ventilation measuring) and rope rescue. The competition and camaraderie of the event helps safety teams strengthen the critical skills needed during real-life mine rescue situations.
