SoCal RTF | 6.6.24 Orlando RTF | 7.24.24

Read Audrey Benet’s Orlando RTF recap article “AI, Team Building, and the Power of Connection: Insights from a CHART RTF” at chart.org > Training Tools & Resources > Training Articles. Thank you to Kim Carson for hosting, and Rachael Nemeth of Opus for presenting!

Pacifica Hotels hosted the event at the beautiful Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina del Rey. Approximately 30 Training and Development professionals got together for an action-packed agenda including a presentation by CHART Board Member James Frank, "Positive Culture Impacts Retention." The group also enjoyed a delicious lunch, Training High 5s, a special presentation from the California Restaurant Foundation, and, of course, LOTS of networking!

PresidenTalks It’s the 4th Quarter…Finish Strong!

“Where did 2024 go?” I asked myself this question on September 22nd when I was reminded that we are now officially in the fall season. (I know in some places e.g., Georgia, it may not feel like it, but yes, it is now fall.) In many organizations, this is the last fiscal quarter of the year, and there is the focus to finish strong while making plans for 2025. Personally, the same applies, and I have found it challenging at times to maintain the focus on both. You may be bombarded with training needs for those last minute promotions to drive Q4 sales and traffic, while at the same time being asked to provide 2025 budget requests and curriculum strategy. Do you have unused PTO to take? Or a personal goal that you committed to completing before the end of the year, yet you are thinking about what you will accomplish next year?

CHART President Dr. Felicia White, Ed.D, CHT

How do you find the balance? My advice is instead of focusing on the balance, focus on strategy. (I am going to do my best here to use a sports analogy; my apologies in advance if I do not get it 100% correct). In the 4th quarter of a basketball game, there is a desire to get as many points on the board as possible, while saving the strength of the players for the next game or even the next season by avoiding injury. For the team in the lead, there may be a focus on breaking a record or driving higher stats. For the team trailing behind, could a last quarter rally change the outcome? The same happens in business. It might be nearly impossible to meet the fiscal goals, but the 4th quarter rally may at least lessen the gap and show positive momentum going into next year. Proper planning with a strategic view for 2025 may help secure the resources needed for additional headcount or vendor

resources…AND attending CHART 107/108 conferences. You may not meet your personal goals, but you can make progress towards them and reflect for your planning next year. This is still a win! Whether your focus is finishing the year, planning for next, or both, think strategically and consider the question: what action(s) will have the most impact? (This is where you want to allocate your resources.) Shameless plug: CHART’s online discussion forum, Ask My Peers, is an excellent resource to connect with fellow members and brainstorm ideas as you and your team are finishing out the year.

Finish the 4th quarter strong! P.S. “Let’s go Atlanta Dream!”
