COMPLETION OF STUDENT TEACHING/PROGRAM

Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s programs follow certification standards from the Oklahoma State Board of Education and degree requirements set by the State Regents for Higher Education. Programs are grouped by certification level:

To enter the teaching profession, candidates must apply for teacher certification and meet all requirements. This includes completing an education degree and passing all required state certification exams. SWOSU will recommend candidates for certification once all steps are completed. Steps to Apply for Certification 1. After meeting all requirements, complete the online Recommendation Request for Teacher Certification form. 2. You’ll be notified by email once your recommendation is submitted. Then, apply online through the Oklahoma State Department of Education Single Sign On. To receive the university recommendation, candidates must: 1. Pass OSDE required exams for your program. 2. Have a 2.50 GPA or higher. 3. Complete all coursework for your approved teacher education degree and be awarded the degree on transcript. 4. Successfully complete Gate 3. 5. Clear all holds from your SWOSU account.

Elementary (Grades 1-8)

Elementary-Secondary (Grades K-12)

• Secondary (Grades 5-12) The Learning and Instruction degree does not lead to traditional teacher certification. Students in this program should meet with the Director of Certification and Field Experience to explore alternative pathways to teaching in Oklahoma.
