PROGRAM GOALS The primary educational goals and objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Learning and Instruction degree program are as follows:
GENERAL INFORMATION This program is designed to help students acquire specialized skills and knowledge in instructional theory and practice, learning science, and educational research. Students will learn how to apply various strategies associated with improved learner engagement and learning outcomes. Students will develop a professional understanding of diverse student groups as well as the ability to navigate the complex relationships that influence teaching and learning. Students will also develop the skills needed to plan lessons, and the ability to effectively implement assessment practices. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to select several courses throughout the program which will best prepare them for anticipated future classroom experiences that best align with their PK-12 employment goals. This diverse coursework covers various topics associated with Learning and Instruction including: 1) Instructional design and pedagogy. 2) Exploring the various ways people learn. 3) Behavior management and intervention strategies. 4) How to apply research in motivation. 5) Various content-oriented instruction resources.
Educational goals for this degree are to: • Facilitate lifelong learning goals.
• Provide opportunities for learners to develop further knowledge in three discipline areas related to learning and instruction. • Allow learners flexibility in designing a personalized program, considering previous course work and professional goals. • Provide an avenue of higher education that meets the needs of learners, whether for personal enrichment or professional advancement. • Provide learners with education mobility options in a world where career changes are increasing. Educational objectives for this degree are to assist learners in: • Completing the same general education curriculum as traditional students. • Developing specialized knowledge in three discipline areas related to learning and instruction. • Enhancing critical thinking, communication, and problem- solving skills. • Gaining intellectual knowledge and experiencing personal growth and enrichment through a broad-based curriculum of study.
