CLIA-waived testing, including Strep, Influenza and Urine Analysis. There is no charge for SWOSU students to see the university nurse; if testing is required, a small fee may be charged to the student’s bursar account. The nurse can also make referrals to see a local doctor. If a physician’s appointment is scheduled through the university, a $20 copay is charged to a student’s bursar account. The University does not cover lab testing, X- rays, emergency room visits, surgeries, treatment for injuries or medications. Students are responsible for costs associated with treatment. Telemedicine options are available. The SWOSU nurse oversees all student immunization/vaccination requirements. A shot record must be submitted from out-of-state students living in one of the SWOSU Residence Halls. Oklahoma State law requires proof of 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and evidence of completion of a Hepatitis B series or a signed certificate of exemption. Medical, religious, and personal exemptions are allowed by law, and such requests must be made in writing using the appropriate WAIVER. TimelyCare Virtual Services SWOSU offers students expanded access to virtual mental health, medical care, and basic needs assistance through a partnership with TimelyCare , higher education’s most trusted virtual care provider of health and well- being resources. Students will have access to the following virtual TimelyCare services – at no cost and without the barrier of traditional insurance: • MedicalNow: 24/7, on-demand complete virtual medical care. • TalkNow: 24/7, on-demand emotional support from a non-licensed staff member. • Scheduled Virtual Counseling: Select the day, time, and a licensed mental health provider of your choice to receive six virtual counseling visits per academic year. • Scheduled Virtual Medical: Select the day, time, and medical provider of your choice to schedule your virtual medical appointment. • Health Coaching: Support for developing healthy behaviors such as exercise, nutrition, time management, mindfulness, and well-being routines. • Self-Care Content: 24/7 access to self-care tools and resources, such as meditation and yoga sessions, helpful videos, and short articles from experts. • Peer Community: An anonymous and judgment-free space where you can connect with, react to, and support other students going through similar situations. • Basic Needs Support: Get connected to free or reduced-cost community resources. By combining our team-based approach with the expertise of on campus professionals providing face-to-face counseling and medical services to the virtual services students can access through TimelyCare , we can provide the unique care that campus communities need to thrive academically, emotionally, and personally. DEAN OF STUDENTS AND STUDENT ACTIVITIES Major functions and responsibilities of the Office of the Dean of Students include promoting student engagement, monitoring student conduct and compliance with university policies, and providing leadership for the resolution of student issues or concerns. Areas of direct responsibility include student organizations and activities, student ombudsperson, accommodations for students with documented disabilities, student conduct, coordinating University response to reported students of concern, student appeals, and parental contacts. The Office of the Dean of Students also actively participates in Title IX investigations, FERPA releases, and verification of student conduct records. HUMAN RESOURCES Students apply for jobs on the job portal, Handshake, through Single Sign- On. Once a pay action has been submitted by the department, Human Resources (HR) will reach out to the student to complete new hire paperwork. The student must meet with HR on or before their first day of work to complete the I-9 form. Student employees are scheduled based on
Oklahoma to enroll students in distance education courses and programs. SWOSU is an approved member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) , which facilitates compliance with state regulations and ensures the delivery of quality distance education nationwide. NC-SARA SWOSU is a participating institution in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) , a voluntary initiative among member states and U.S. territories that establishes uniform standards for the interstate delivery of postsecondary distance education. NC-SARA is designed to expand access to educational opportunities by streamlining the process for students to enroll in online courses offered by institutions located in other states. Distance Learning Complaint Process for Out of State Students Students enrolled at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) who wish to resolve an academic grievance are encouraged to follow the University’s official Academic Appeals Procedure , available here . Students residing outside the state of Oklahoma who are unable to resolve their concerns through the internal process may pursue additional avenues. These include submitting a complaint to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education or through the NC-SARA Student Complaint Process for institutions participating in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement. Out-of-state students may also contact the appropriate higher education agency in their home state. Licensure Disclosure Prospective and current students, who reside or plan on practicing/teaching outside of Oklahoma, should consult the appropriate licensing agency in their chosen state, prior to beginning a SWOSU academic program to determine if the program will lead to a professional license in their state. CENTER FOR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING Student Counseling Services The priority of the Center for Health and Well-Being Counseling Services is to provide emotional support and encouragement to students and set the foundation for academic flourishing, finding purpose, and enabling students to thrive in their studies and reach their full potential. SWOSU is a JED Campus, nationally recognized for putting student mental health first. Prioritizing your mental and physical health does more than help you feel good; it can contribute to academic success. Located in the Wellness Center, Counseling Services is staffed with three Licensed Professional Counselors and one Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor providing a wide range of personal face-to-face counseling services and resources that include counseling intakes, individual counseling, group counseling, assessments, and crisis intervention. Our mission is to provide high quality counseling and crisis intervention to our campus community, consultation, and overall health and wellness resources. We strive to promote the psychological wellbeing of all students to foster a rich and meaningful campus life experience. We recognize that a student is flourishing when they are healthy in all aspects of their life. We operate on the Stepped Care Model , a holistic and individualized approach that provides flexible access to wellness and mental health resources. Stepped Care gives individuals the opportunity to step their care up, or step it down, depending on their health needs. Counselors continue to provide clinical services in-person and virtually from 8am-5pm (CST), Monday through Friday. Students may begin services by calling, emailing, or signing up on-line.
