COMM 3763 ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT Entertainment management is a class designed to introduce the student to the process of a theatrical production from inception to completion with an emphasis on the managerial aspects of the production. Specifically, the student will have basic understanding of stage management for the theatre. SE COMM 3963 COSTUME HISTORY A study of the design and development of costumes from ancient times up to the present. D COMM 3973 COSTUME, MAKEUP AND WARDROBE Costume, Makeup and Wardrobe is a course designed to teach students about the process of costume design, makeup and wardrobes as well as to train them in the skills needed to realize a design of their own. FO COMM 4143 FIELD STUDIES IN COMMUNICATION The purpose of this course is to give students practical, hands-on, "real world" experience in the Communication Arts emphases areas (Strategic Communication and Film and Live Entertainment.) The over-arching goal of the class is to provide students with a realistic overview of the types of work to expect when entering a chosen field. The course also may instruct students on how to develop and produce the materials needed for their specific discipline. COMM 4153 CAPSTONE MUSICAL PRODUCTION SEMINAR The culminating course is designed for senior musical theatre students. It allows students to select an aspect of musical theatre such as acting, assistant directing, costumes, makeup, lighting, entertainment management or other significant professional skills and apply those to a realized production. In this course, students refine and demonstrate their mastery of An introduction to the art and practice of dramaturgy within theatrical production and literary analysis. Students will explore the role of the dramaturg through script analysis, historical and cultural research, adaptation, season planning, and audience engagement. Emphasis will be placed on developing research skills, critical writing, and collaborative strategies that support directors, designers, and performers. Students will also examine case studies and complete hands-on projects, including the creation of a production dramaturgy portfolio. D COMM 4243 MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION Students are provided opportunities to develop their communication skills through audio and video media projects. COMM 4253 GLOBAL COMMUNICATION This course critically examines verbal and nonverbal barriers to effective intercultural and international communication. It focuses on developing effective communication in advanced study of communication theories - interpersonal, organizational, mass media and intercultural contexts - and explores the definition and impact of global communication. COMM 4263 CRISIS COMMUNICATION This course introduces students to the important implications of effective internal and external communication during crises. The course examines proactive and reactive approaches to crisis communication from an academic and practical perspective. Elements of effective crisis communication plans and tactics are considered. Throughout the course, students are given the opportunity to analyze several crisis situations. COMM 4293 MEDIA LAW AND ETHICS Overview of First Amendment rights and responsibilities. Includes issues of obscenity, liable, censorship, rights of privacy, trial by media, rights of access, and political correctness. S a chosen aspect of musical theatre. COMM 4173 DRAMATURGY
COMM 4343 COMMUNICATION THEORY Introduction to theories and methods used to study human communication phenomena across several contexts. SO COMM 4363 ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION A course integrating theory and practice focusing on how people in professions are able to succeed in their jobs and careers through effective communication practices. FO COMM 4403 SETS, PROPS AND LOCATIONS This course teaches students skills in set design, set decorating, prop design, prop management, location scouting, and dressing locations for use in film, television, photography, event planning, and live theatre and musicals. DO COMM 4463 THEATRE HISTORY: GREEK TO 1660 Survey of growth and development of the theatre from its beginnings to 1660 with consideration of dramatic literature, physical theatre, style of presentation, and social significance of theatre. FO COMM 4483 PLAY DIRECTING AND PRODUCING This course covers the techniques of directing and producing plays and cinematography, script analysis, script selection, casting, and approaches to rehearsal. Prerequisites: COMM 2363, COMM 2763 and COMM 3663. SO COMM 4563 TEACHING SPEECH IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL Problems and methods of teaching speech and directing speech activities in the secondary school. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. D COMM 4663 THEATRE HISTORY: 1660 TO PRESENT Survey of growth and development of the theatre from 1660 to the present with consideration of dramatic literature, physical theatre, style of presentation, and social significance of theatre. SE COMM 4813 PRINCIPLES OF PUBLIC RELATIONS This course is designed to expose students to the practices of writing and designing public relations documents. To help students develop the skills necessary for a career in public relations. Students will also be provided an understanding of the necessity and benefits of public relations to the business world. F COMM 4823 WRITING FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS This course is designed to develop writing skills necessary to a career in public relations. Students will be provided with exposure to the stresses of deadline requirements inherent within the public relations profession. Students will develop research skills necessary for public relations writing. S, E COMM 4833 PRINCIPLES OF ADVERTISING This course is designed to introduce students to different perspectives of advertising and the integration of marketing and sales. Students will be engaged in learning and applying various advertising strategies as well as creating various advertisements. Students will be challenged to create and evaluate marketing and advertising strategies through the use of a variety of advertising media. S COMM 4953 SENIOR CAPSTONE A course integrating the theory and practice of the job search process. Students will explore their career options through guided activities.
