Emphasis is placed upon the young child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education Program and PSYCH 3413. F, SU ECED 4612 PRACTICUM IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION The teaching practicum is a hands-on, immersive experience designed to provide aspiring educators with practical insights and skills essential for successful teaching in early childhood school settings. Candidates will engage in real-world teaching scenarios, receive constructive feedback, and collaborate with experienced mentors to refine their instructional techniques. This practicum is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring that participants are well-prepared and confident as they transition into the internship experience. *Must be taken a semester prior to student teaching. Prerequisite: Instructor consent required Educational Foundations EDUC 2113 FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION Historical, philosophical, social foundations and current issues in education are introduced and discussed. Conceptual framework, including university classroom experience, field experience, cohort experience, and service-learning experiences are explored. Laboratory experiences as an observer in the public schools and procedures for admission to the department are included. F, S EDUC 3133 TEACHING ENGLISH LEARNERS This course provides theoretical and practical foundations for teaching English learners. The course focuses on methods and materials for teaching English learners including instructional approaches for language and literacy development and academic content. The course also explores cultural values and beliefs in the context of teaching and learning English as a second language. F, S, SU EDUC 3143 INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE The mission of the Teacher Education Unit is to prepare and sustain exemplary teachers, counselors, and administrators with an emphasis on scholarship, diverse clinical experiences, and effective classroom techniques. These professionals will possess upon graduation the content/pedagogical expertise, disposition to improve educational practices, and the social/psychological preparation needed to function effectively in a global environment. This mission is accomplished through the conceptual framework of Experienced Based Teacher Education (EBTE). The acronym represents an emphasis on: Exemplary university classroom experiences, Best practice field experiences, Teacher education cohort experiences and Education related service learning experiences. F, S, SU EDUC 3321 MULTICULTURAL/SPECIAL POPULATION This course explores factors related to the education of culturally and linguistically diverse learners. The course introduces diversity, cultural issues, and related perspectives in education. Teacher candidates will analyze their personal cultural journey and its impact in the classroom and examine individual aspects in ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, exceptionalities, language, and sexual orientation in the context of education and society. Candidates will also develop skills, knowledge, and dispositions related to teaching and learning in varied classroom settings with diverse learners and gain culturally responsive teaching strategies. Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education Program, the Pre- professional semester, and concurrent enrollment in Student Teaching

Early Childhood ECED 4163 PERCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT IN INFANTS AND TODDLERS An in-depth exploration of sensory development, processing, and cognitive growth during the earliest stages of human life. Grounded in developmental psychology and neuroscience, this course examines how infants and toddlers perceive and make sense of the world around them. Through a blend of theoretical study, empirical research, and practical applications, candidates will explore various aspects of perceptual development, including vision, hearing, touch, taste, smell, and proprioception. S ECED 4423 PLAY METHODS AND MATERIALS IN PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN A foundational exploration of the intersection of early childhood education, family engagement, and purposeful play methods to create rich and meaningful learning experiences for young children. Grounded in research-based practices and guided by principles of child development and family-centered approaches, this course prepares candidates to become effective educators who understand various early childhood settings, the importance of collaboration with families, and developmentally appropriate practices. Candidates will explore strategies for building positive relationships with families, promoting effective communication, and involving families in their children’s learning journey. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing and respecting diverse family structures, cultures, and backgrounds. F ECED 4483 EXPLORING THE CHILD'S WORLD An interdisciplinary course designed to deepen candidates understanding of children’s development and learning in the domains of mathematics, science, and social studies. This course emphasizes inquiry-based learning approaches and aims to equip candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively engage children in meaningful exploration and discovery. Through a combination of theoretical exploration and hands-on experiences, candidates will examine key concepts, theories, and research findings related to child development and learning in math, science, and social studies. They will explore various inquiry-based teaching strategies and instructional methods that promote active engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills among children. S ECED 4533 GUIDANCE OF THE PRESCHOOL CHILD A comprehensive course designed to provide educators and caregivers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support the social- emotional development and behavior management of young children using a research-based approach to social-emotional learning and classroom management that emphasizes self-regulation, empathy, and positive
