ELEM 3513 CONTENT, METHODS AND MATERIALS IN MATHEMATICS FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS This course uses a growth mindset philosophy to introduce mathematical processes and concepts to teacher candidates. These candidates will learn to use active learning techniques to teach standards pertaining to Numbers & Operations, Algebraic Thinking, Geometry & Measurement, and Data & Probability to PK-6 th grade. They will also learn to apply instructional strategies that focus on the needs of each individual child. F, S, SU ELEM 3522 CONTENT, METHODS AND MATERIALS IN SOCIAL STUDIES FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS This course offers an overview of the social science disciplines and explores a variety of multicultural and interdisciplinary approaches for teaching elementary and middle school social studies. The course focuses on promoting an awareness of civic engagement and participation including the development of problem-solving and decision-making skills. Current issues and topics in social studies education are also examined. F, S, SU ELEM 4233 PRACTICUM IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION The teaching practicum is a hands-on, immersive experience designed to provide aspiring educators with practical insights and skills essential for successful teaching in elementary school settings. Candidates will engage in real-world teaching scenarios, receive constructive feedback, and collaborate with experienced mentors to refine their instructional techniques. This practicum is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring that participants are well-prepared and confident as they transition into the internship experience. Must be taken semester prior to student teaching. Prerequisite: Instructor consent required. F, S ELEM 4352 TEACHING SCIENCE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS This course emphasizes the inquiry-discovery approach for teaching science and explores the structure and processes of science, intellectual development of children, and scientific thinking skills. The course highlights the importance of using different strategies and techniques to engage children in investigating meaningful, real-world questions about the world around them. ELEM 4352 TEACHING SCIENCE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS This course emphasizes the inquiry-discovery approach for teaching science and explores the structure and processes of science, intellectual development of children, and scientific thinking skills. The course highlights the importance of using different strategies and techniques to engage children in investigating meaningful, real-world questions about the world around them. ELEM 4613 EDUCATIONAL TESTS & MEASUREMENTS Study of assessment procedures to improve the teaching-learning process through the utilization of various measures to ensure validity and reliability. Exploration of early, formative, and summative assessments. F, S, SU ELEM 4665-4765 STUDENT TEACHING IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Directed observation, participation, and student teaching under the guidance of an assigned elementary classroom teacher. Prerequisites: Admission to the Pre-Professional Semester and concurrent enrollment in the Four-Week Block Sequence of EDUC 3321, EDUC 4021, and EDUC 4041. F, S ELEM 4833 PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL An in-depth study of the elementary school and its roles/purposes in American society with major emphasis toward subject integration, content delivery techniques, rules and procedures in the classroom, student well- being, and overall professionalism of elementary teachers. It also emphasizes the importance of teacher growth through collaboration and self-reflection. F, S, SU

F, S EDUC 4021 CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN EDUCATION A four-week block course required of all students seeking a degree or certification in Teacher Education. The class provides candidates with essential knowledge, skills, and resources needed during the student teaching block experience. The class also includes two days of observation in the assigned cooperating classroom and one field trip to diversely populated school sites. Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education Program, the Pre-Professional Semester, and concurrent enrollment in Student Teaching and the Four-Week Block Sequence of EDUC 3321, EDUC 4021, and EDUC 4041. F, S EDUC 4041 CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Candidates learn to effectively manage attention, momentum, discipline, space, time, and routines in the classroom in order to facilitate optimal student learning. Candidates learn to understand and apply principles of motivation to enhance student achievement through knowledge of the role of expectations, climate, and personal relationship building. Candidates develop a personal management system tailored to their individual philosophies and personalities as well as to the needs and traits of students and the social realities of schools and communities. Candidates complete nine hours of trauma-informed responsive instruction and MTSS during block courses of the professional semester as required by OEQA. Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education Program, the Pre- professional semester, and concurrent enrollment in Student Teaching and the Four Week Block sequence of EDUC 3321, EDUC 4021, and EDUC 4041. F, S Educational Psychology EDPSY 3413 CHILD PSYCHOLOGY This course is an examination of the psychological theories, principles, and research pertaining to the developing child from conception through adolescence. This course will also cover biological and environmental influences on affective and cognitive development, as well as their influence on social development and personality development. This course will be oriented toward an applied understanding of child and adolescent development with an emphasis on applications to teaching and parenting needs. Prerequisite: PSYCH 1003. F, S, SU EDPSY 3433 ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGY A realistic examination of the categories of behavior, developmental growth stages, family relationships, and social influences from late childhood through early adulthood as they apply to the school and classroom environments. Major emphasis is also directed to competency mastery of the Competencies for Licensure and Certification and to the objectives for the Professional Teaching Examination presented by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation. Prerequisites: PSYCH 1003. F, S, SU EDPSY 3653 EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY This course is a study of the theoretical concepts, principles, and applications of psychological theories as they apply to teaching and learning. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of how these theories guide interventions. Students will demonstrate the ability to apply various psychological theories and principles through the use of appropriate strategies and techniques associated with human learning, human motivation, individual learner differences, and classroom behavior management. Prerequisite: PSYCH 1003 . F, S, SU Elementary Education ELEM 3113 TEACHING WITH THE ARTS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY This course leads candidates to integrate the arts (drama, dance, visual arts, media arts, and music) into learning experiences in key content areas (literacy, math, science, and social studies) in early childhood and elementary classrooms. Candidates incorporate the arts to improve student academic success and create an inclusive school community within diverse educational settings. Candidates implement the fundamentals within each fine arts area and develop an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. F, S, SU
