HIM 4163 HEALTHCARE REIMBURSEMENT This course explores the principles of healthcare reimbursement with a focus on effective revenue cycle management. Students will gain practical experience in facilitating prior authorizations, verifying insurance eligibility, and accurately documenting patient encounters for charge capture and entry. The course emphasizes transparent pricing estimates, identification of underpayments, and effective management of billing denials and appeals. Students will conduct payer reviews, reconcile remittance advice, and analyze financial and claims data to identify trends, patterns, and risks. Through applied exercises, students will design payer report cards, recommend workflow improvements, and develop strategies to enhance compliance, mitigate revenue loss, and improve reimbursement outcomes. Online HIM 4173 HEALTHCARE LEADERSHIP This course prepares students to lead and educate within health information management by developing practical skills in leadership, communication, and professional practice. Students will apply leadership strategies that build trust, transparency, and empowerment, while practicing shared decision-making, conflict resolution, and innovative problem-solving. The course emphasizes mentoring, coaching, and serving as a subject matter expert within interprofessional teams, as well as integrating evidence-informed practice and critical thinking into decision-making. Students will also design and deliver HIM training by applying adult learning principles, assessing readiness to learn, and leveraging digital tools to create effective educational resources for diverse audiences. Online HIM 4213 HEALTH DATA INTEGRITY Data integrity as it relates to healthcare is a vital piece to quality health information. This course will discuss the core disciplines in a data governance program including: information life cycle management, data quality management, information security and privacy, master and reference data management, metadata management, data architecture management, data development, and business intelligence management. Online HIM 4223 MANAGERIAL CODING This course prepares students to manage and improve coding operations in healthcare organizations. Emphasis is on accurate reimbursement, compliance, and revenue cycle management. Students will navigate CMS transmittals and payor portals, apply coding tools like encoders and CAC, and design audit trails and quality monitoring programs. Topics include identifying discrepancies, correcting errors, and improving workflows. By course end, students will gain skills to ensure coding accuracy, enhance compliance, and recommend systems that boost organizational performance. Online Occupational Therapy Assistant OTA 1013 INTRO TO OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY This course is designed to establish a knowledge base for the prospective OTA in that it emphasizes the human element of health care and the role the Occupational Therapy Assistant performs in providing this component. It focuses on the history and philosophy and gives an overview of assessment, evaluation and performance areas as well as the tools of practice. Theoretical frameworks and approaches and basic concepts of human development are also covered. F OTA 1023 KINESIOLOGY FOR OTA This course builds on basic anatomic and physiologic concepts of human movement, emphasizing the kinesiological, anatomic and functional aspects of the skeletal musculature of the human body and their application to human motion. F OTA 1102 THERAPEUTIC MEDIA The purpose of this course is to acquaint the student with basic craft techniques which may be utilized in a variety of treatment settings. HIM 4073 HEALTH DATA ANALYSIS This course consists of acquiring, managing, analyzing, interpreting, and transforming data into accurate, consistent, and timely information. Tasks include: analysis of health data using appropriate testing methods to generate findings for interpretation; interpretation of analytical findings by formulating recommendations for clinical, financial, and operational processes; and the ability to validate results through qualitative and quantitative analysis in order to confirm findings. Students will learn basic research design, methods and be able to explain the role of biomedical research. Online HIM 4082 HIM PROFESSIONAL REVIEW A capstone course designed to review learned HIM professional applications, practice, and principles to assist in preparing the student to successfully complete the national registration exam and to be able to successfully meet the entry level competencies of the HIM profession. Online HIM 4093 HEALTH DATA INFORMATICS This course will introduce Health Informatics including definitions, theory, technologies, workflow and expectations in the informatics field, tools, and professional organizations. There will be a focus on healthcare informatics as it brings together healthcare-generated information with technology for the purpose of improving quality of care in a cost-effective manner. Online HIM 4113 HEALTHCARE QUALITY MEASURES This course provides an in-depth exploration of quality management, risk reduction, and patient safety within healthcare organizations. Students will examine how performance monitoring drives Total Quality Management (TQM) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, while also gaining the skills to identify, select, analyze quality data and trends to identify improvement opportunities and apply performance measures that evaluate quality outcomes, patient safety, and organizational efficiency. quality data and trends to detect improvement opportunities and recommend evidence-based solutions. Online HIM 4052 PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE This course will help students gain professional skills as they near entering the professional field. Virtual applications are used to simulate actual healthcare operations. Online HIM 4063 RHIA EXAM PREP COURSE This course is designed to prepare a graduate of any CAHIIM-accredited RHIA program with a set study and preparatory method for the national RHIA exam. The course will include a self-guided schedule by the instructor to allow the student to prepare and practice for the National Registry exam. Online HIM 4132 MEDICAL CODING INTERNSHIP This course is a two-week on site and/or virtual coding experience for students in the HIM Program and/or Coding Certificate Program. The location is selected by the student and coordinated by the instructor. Online HIM 4143 REVENUE MANAGEMENT This course provides an in-depth exploration of the healthcare revenue cycle, from initial patient contact through billing, adjudication, and payment posting. Students will apply reimbursement methodologies across the continuum of care and evaluate code assignment to ensure accurate payment from multiple payer sources. Emphasis is placed on applying regulatory requirements to billing data collection, claims processing, and compliance practices. Students will also examine payer contracts and agreements, including those involving government and managed care programs, and incorporate best practices in case mix management to
strengthen financial outcomes. Online HIM 4153 HIM INTERNSHIP
A one-week professional practice experience in the Health Information Department of a selected facility. The student will observe and practice in functional and managerial activities.
