Course Descriptions COLLEGE OF PHARMACY (F = Classes offered in the Fall, S = Classes offered in the Spring, SU = Classes offered in the Summer, D = Classes offered upon Demand, O = Odd years, E = Even years)

PHARM 6012 BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES 1 Two-hour lecture. This course introduces the structural and functional anatomy of the human body, with emphasis on the integrative regulatory mechanisms that support homeostasis in living organisms. Immunological principles are used as a model system, focusing on cellular mechanisms such as antigen recognition, immune signaling, and the coordination of immune responses . PHARM 6023 PHARMACEUTICS 1 Three-hour lecture. A study of the applications of physical chemical and biopharmaceutical principles in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, especially in designing various stable pharmaceutical dosage forms. Discussions involving pertinent mathematical concepts, development issues, processes, regulatory issues and compendial methods of evaluation Three-hour lecture. An introduction to various aspects of pharmacy practice in a retail or community setting. A discussion of prescription format and interpretation, drug standards and drug laws, communication skills and patient counseling, as well as important characteristics and counseling information for the most dispensed prescription products, will be included. PHARM 6043 PHARMACY CALCULATIONS Three-hour lecture. Mathematical calculations applicable to the practice of pharmacy, including systems of measurement, expressions of concentration, dimensional analysis, pharmaceutical formulas for compounding of medications, dosages, and determination of patient parameters. PHARM 6051 PHARMACY CERTIFICATIONS 1 of commonly administered dosage forms are included. PHARM 6033 COMMUNITY PHARMACY One-hour seminar/workshop style. Students will complete certifications to gain skills applicable to patient care. Students will gain professional certifications related to immunizations, blood pressure, and CPR. PHARM 6061 COMPOUNDING & DISPENSING SKILL LAB Op rnoec-ehsosuers , lpaabtoi er na tt ocroyu. nIsnetlri on dg ,uac nt ido np htaor mt haec epurt ei csaclr ci potmi opno, udni ds pi negn. s i n g PHARM 6104 BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES 2 Four-hour lecture. This course continues the exploration of the structural and functional anatomy of the human body, with emphasis on the integrative regulatory mechanisms —such as neural control, hormonal signaling, and feedback systems— that support homeostasis in living organisms. Basic pharmacological principles will be introduced, highlighting how therapies interact with physiological systems. PHARM 6113 PHARMACEUTICS 2 Three-hour lecture. A continued study of pharmaceutical dosage forms, with a primary focus on solid dosage forms. Special emphasis is placed on novel technologies for developing targeted and advanced drug delivery systems. The course examines cutting-edge approaches that explore unconventional routes of administration and complex delivery mechanisms. It also focuses on strategies for transforming proteins, genes, and other biotechnology-driven compounds into therapeutic products, with attention to emerging drug therapies used in the design of rational drug delivery systems. PHARM 6123 BIOPHARMACEUTICS & PHARMACOKINETICS Three-hour lecture. This course provides an integrated overview of biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. The biopharmaceutics component emphasizes drug product performance, examining how the physical and chemical properties of drugs, dosage forms, and routes of administration influence drug absorption and

bioavailability, ultimately affecting therapeutic outcomes. Emphasis is placed on the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of drugs and their roles in determining drug efficacy and safety. Students will develop a strong foundation in pharmacokinetic terminology, supported by mathematical and conceptual models that describe drug movement within the body and its relevance to clinical effectiveness. General principles of pharmacokinetic modeling are presented in the context of therapeutic decision-making and patient care. PHARM 6132 SELF-CARE PHARMACOTHERAPY 1 Two-hour lecture. Introduction to over the counter, natural products, and other relevant legal/regulatory issues related to the approval and use of these products . PHARM 6142 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 1 Two-hour seminar/workshop style course. This foundational course introduces pharmacy students to essential professional skills and career development strategies necessary for success in contemporary pharmacy practice. Students explore professional identity formation, leadership principles, cultural awareness, and interprofessional team dynamics within the pharmacy profession. There will also be reinforcement and assessment of previous knowledge and skills from prior coursework. APPE- and team-readiness plan assessments will be included. PHARM 6161 COMMUNITY PHARMACY SKILLS LAB One-hour laboratory. Students develop the ability to fill prescriptions rapidly and accurately. Students are presented with numerous types of written and phoned prescriptions during each lab session, many of which contain intentional errors. Students develop methods to correct prescription errors through appropriate physician communications. Key topics include patient counseling, introductory pharmacy law, insurance processing, and prescription transfers. PHARM 6170 INTRODUCTORY PHARMACY PRACTICE EXPERIENCE - COMMUNITY Zero-hour clinical practicum. Full-time, four-week practicum conducted in a community pharmacy; provides introductory experiences in contemporary pharmacy practice including: dispensing, prescription processing systems, management, and patient counseling. Prerequisites: PHARM 6033, PHARM 6061. PHARM 6202 PATHOPHYSIOLOGY 1 Two-hour lecture. A study of the pathology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations of human disease states.
