B ender Ireland has equipped two elective orthopaedic theatres at Merlin Park University Hospital in Galway, with state-of-the-art operating theatre equipment, advanced medical IT power and residual current monitoring systems for ultimate resilience and safety. Construction of the new €10.57m theatre building in the grounds of Merlin Park hospital began in March 2021 and was handed over in April 2022. The electrical installation package was awarded and completed by Limerick- based, H&F Electrical. For the critical power and theatre package, H&F Electrical secured the services of Bender Ireland. Bender Ireland is a business unit of Bender UK, the Cumbrian-based Bender

company, which is part of the global, Bender Group. Bender Ireland has a long history of work in the region, supporting healthcare customers and contractors for over two decades. Chris Simmons, County Manager for Bender Ireland, explained, “Bender products were previously supplied by a reseller in Ireland, but over the last decade Bender UK brought the business back in-house, developing and strengthening a local team. As the business has grown, we now have six people including myself, with plans to recruit two more staff this year. We are proud to be the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in Ireland with the presence, resources and products for critical power infrastructure and clinical equipment.

“As an OEM, we’re heavily involved in the regulations that are associated with electrical infrastructure, including setting the standards – in collaboration with others around the globe.” Innovation Bender Ireland inherits a legacy of innovation from its founder Walther Hans Bender who invented and patented the first insulation monitoring device in the early 1940s. The origins of this technology we still see today in hospitals. “It is a very small, simple box, but it’s a critical life-saving component in any medical location,” said Chris. “We have a vast knowledge and expertise, that covers both electrical infrastructure, and clinical products

“The Bender Group is keen to invest resources in the local areas that it serves so well.”
