FIRST SERIES OF LIVE EVENTS HELPED ELECTRICIANS AND CONTRACTORS GET TO GRIPS WITH THE LATEST CHANGES TO THE 18TH EDITION WIRING REGULATIONS, AND A SECOND ROUND IS ON ITS WAY… CEF TechTalks proves a hit

C EF, the leading multi-channel electrical distributor, in partnership with IET, helped thousands of electricians and contractors get to grips with the latest changes to the 18th Edition wiring regulations by hosting a series of 31 free live TechTalks across the UK and Channel Islands. Over 7,500 contractors registered to attend TechTalks at venues in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, and major UK cities between April and July. One of the last events of the series was presented at the Culloden Estate and Spa, in Belfast. The talks offered a full breakdown of the 2nd amendment to the 18th Edition BS 7671 wiring regulations. The agenda also included CO legislation changes, energy monitoring, battery storage installations, EV charging and Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) coding. The attendees had the opportunity to meet

some of CEF’s key supplier partners and discover their latest products. Dream team of Electrical experts The Tech talks were presented by CEF’s Head of Technical Solutions, Darren Staniforth. His wealth of knowledge and personable presentation style made it easy for everyone to understand what has changed in the 18th Edition and how it will affect their work. He was joined by Dave Austin, Technical Presenter of the Learning Lounge, and guest speaker Mark Coles, Head of Technical Regulations from the IET. Commenting on presenting Tech Talks, Darren said: “It’s been brilliant meeting so many electricians and helping them understand the new regulations. It’s my job to turn all the technical information into something that they can relate to.” The attendees participated actively.

“There were loads of great questions to keep me on my toes, and it’s great to know that they all go away with the know-how to get the job done,” he added. CPD accredited CEF’s TechTalks are CPD accredited, meaning attendees can use information from the day as part of their ongoing professional development. Electrical contractors also received six free Tech Cards to take away. These are packed with technical information about changes to the wiring regulations and how to comply with them in the future. CEF is already planning a second series of TechTalks this Autumn. The new sessions will cover EV charging installations, Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Supply Systems, and earthing regulations.

CEF TechTalks speakers Darren Staniforth and Dave Austin also present CEF TechTalking, a weekly podcast to discuss all things electrical. Each episode features a guest with expertise to help you keep up to date with the electrical topics of the moment. Listen to it on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or Amazon Music. Knowledge on the go
