T he Moody Institute of Science located in Whittier, Calif., has launched a project termed Operation Mobile Missionary which is destined to have a world-wide outreach. This 25th anniversary project features a 31-foot Streamline Trailer fully equipped as a communica tions center. The trailer serves as a prototype in a pilot program which introduces the concept of apply ing modern trailer technology and the latest advances in communications to the missionary task through out the world. The trailer will be demonstrated during 1970 throughout the United States at strategic conferences and training schools. In December, 1970, the trailer, contents, and towing vehicle will be donated to the missionary who, in the opinion of the judges, pro poses the most effective use for it on the foreign field. Dr. Irwin A. Moon, manager of MIS, the crea tor of this concept, is directing the program. An all-weather rear projection system, Mobilux, has been designed and built by MIS especially for this project. It can be mounted on top of almost any vehicle for showing a film and can be erected by one person in a few seconds. The trailer is also equipped with a public address system, complete tape record ing facilities, a filmstrip projector, and a complete set of “Sermons from Science” films and filmstrips produced by MIS. According to Dr. Moon the goal of the project is to bring new methods and technology to the task of communicating the gospel message. He adds, “The Mobile Missionary concept fits perfectly into the most signifcant developments in missions in more than a century. The use of multilingual audiovisual materials can literally revolutionize the outreach and effective ness of the missionary, and the trailer solves the pressing problem of logistics.” For the medical doctor or dentist the trailer could be converted into a mobile clinic. The mission ary hospital meets the needs only of those who are able to get there for treatment but the trailer can transport medical facilities and personnel to remote areas. The trailer in its versatility can serve other purposes such as a center for Bible instruction and a broadcasting studio on wheels. |
