She believes it is the duty of civilians to acknowledge the sacrifices of service members, offer encouragement, and preserve their legacy of courage and dedication. Her philosophy remains steadfast: “A nation that does not honor its ancestors and live their noble heritage is lost and will perish.” In recognition of her extensive conservation efforts, Mama Duma Safari in Kenya has been named in her honor. The term “Duma,” meaning “cheetah” in Swahili, reflects the admiration of Boyd Okeelo, the safari’s owner and director, for her work in wildlife preservation and community support in Kenya. Beyond her humanitarian work, MVP is an accomplished author. A recipient of the International Society of Poets Highest Achievement Award, she has been honored as one of “The 20 Most Significant Texans” and is the youngest recipient of the “Legend of Texas” award. She has also received the America’s Heroes of Freedom Humanitarian Award and the Navy League of the U.S. Scroll Award.
