Organisé annuellement depuis main- tenant trois ans, la semaine a lieu du 21 au 27 octobre et prône la réduction des déchets, par le biais d’une coalition d’organisations environnementales à but non lucratif et d’organismes gou- vernementaux de partout au Canada. – Francis Racine TERRAIN DISPONIBLE La Cité de Clarence-Rockland a un terrain excédentaire à vendre. Le conseil a reçu un rapport d’administra- tion sur le 1954, promenade Claudette, une propriété municipale acquise à titre de terrain pour un parc éventuel, dans le cadre d’un projet de lotissement rési- dentiel de 1992. Il y a déjà un parc de quartier dans la région. Le terrain sera mis en vente. – Gregg Chamberlain ROBBERY CHARGE Jason St-Jacques, 18, of Clarence Creek is charged with robbery involving violence and with uttering threats. The charges resulted from an OPP investi- gation of a robbery complaint, October 20, at about 9:45 a.m., in the Richelieu Street neighbourhood in Rockland. The case is now scheduled for the November 27 provincial court session in L’Orignal. – Gregg Chamberlain

The City of Clarence-Rockland has a plan for dealing with its present and future transportation needs. The ques- tion now is how to make it work and how to pay for it. “This is it,” said Helen Collier, chief ad- ministrator, during an October 18 interview. The Transportation Master Plan (TMP) was presented to Clarence-Rockland council dur- ing its October 7 committee of the whole session. Council directed administration to post the TMP on the municipal website for a 30-day period to allow all residents to review and provide final comment on it before it comes back to council for the December 2 regular session. The TMP may receive final acceptance from council on December 2. It may be set aside for further review and revision depend- ing on the feedback received during the online comment period. This plan updates the 2005 TMP. It reviews Clarence-Rockland’s existing trans- portation system, including within the Town of Rockland and the connections with the villages of Saint-Pascal-Baylon, Clarence Creek, Hammond, Cheney, Bourget, and smaller hamlets. It also reviews the com- muter traffic situation between Rockland and the City of Ottawa, along with all road maintenance and improvement schedules, and winter snow removal needs.

The TMP report noted that currently, peak morning and afternoon commuter traffic periods for Rockland amount to about 1000 vehicles travelling County Road 17 between Rockland and Orléans-Ottawa, for work and other needs. That number will almost double by 2031. The report also noted that the county road intersections in Rockland, by then, will be at their capacity levels. The report reviewed future financial
planning options for covering the cost of improvements for Clarence-Rockland’s trans- portation issues and needs. These include road upgrades and improving transit service between Rockland and outlying villages. The city would seek senior government financ- ing help whenever possible but the report noted that most of the future costs would be covered through either future development charges or taxation.
