SURREY WEDDINGS & CEREMONIES

Citizenship ceremonies

Changing nationality is a major turning point in someone’s life. Once an application to become a British citizen has been approved by the Home Office, each new citizen (aged over 18) is required to attend a special ceremony to achieve citizenship status. The ceremony formally welcomes new arrivals into the British family. It confers rights and acknowledges responsibilities. Group ceremonies take place each week, or alternatively, individuals may prefer to have a private ceremony at our register office (an additional fee is charged for this). At a citizenship ceremony, new citizens are required to make promises and swear an oath to the Sovereign that they will be faithful citizens. They must also make a formal and public pledge to be loyal subjects and observe the laws of this country. The ceremony concludes when new citizens are presented with their Certificate of Naturalisation. It is at this point that they become British citizens.
