VICKY CHARBONNEAU vicky.charbonneau@eap.on.ca

For the sixth year, a special Victorian Tea and Garden visit was organized in Morewood (Russell) to raisemoney for the Breast Cancer Foundation. Although the event does not require to dress up, many go the extra mile to look the part. This year’s afternoon tea, held on June 23, was a step back in time to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Confederation. Sir John AMacDonald, first Prime Minister of Canada, was delegated by Queen Victo-

ria herself to address the guests and share tea with the dignitaries, such as the Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux. The three sittings event required many hours of preparation, and with the weather on their side, all guests were able to visit the surrounding gardens and listen to livemusic. As emissaries for Queen Victoria (of whoma visit should be expected next year), Lady Claire Lambert Shakespeare (a.k.a. Claire Ivanski) and Lady Claire Spencer For- syth (a.k.a. Claire Desrochers) organized and hosted the afternoon of entertainment. Animation included official greetings, an history of the centennial estate, the presen- tation of the light lunch and the visit of the garden and its hidden treasures.
