Writing Process & Approaches............................................ 3 Writing as a process, its interrelationship to reading, cognition and to linguistic and contextual issues. Examination of current problems, instructional research, theories, methods of instruc- tion and materials, programs, technology assessment, and professional publication process. Diagnosis & Remediation of Reading Difficulties. ....... 3 Addresses numerous theoretical and practical considerations related to the nature and causes of reading difficulties and disabilities, including techniques and materials for individual diagnosis. Instruction provided in regard to clinical and classroom techniques, evaluation and use of materials for the remediation of reading disabilities and active participation in an instructional program.

An understand- ing of linguistics, English pronunciation and grammar is emphasized. Literature Study in the Classroom..................................... 3 Designed to provide an understanding of the historical perspective on children’s literature through literature, film, lecture, and discussion. Literature representative of a variety of cultures and ethnic groups will be analyzed and discussed in order to strengthen cultural understanding. Emphasis will be upon developing a variety of responses to literature through art, drama, and writing in order to strengthen children’s literacy development.
