You might be surprised to see that “Take Care of Our Team Members” is listed before “Take Care of Our Customers.” Please understand, these values aren’t numbered — they are bulleted. This means that no single value is more important than another. And while one value isn’t more important than any other, they are in the order they are for a reason. I believe if we take care of team members, then they will almost automatically take care of customers better. It is as simple as what goes around comes around . Team members who believe that the company has their best interests at heart will do a better job taking care of customers.
Here at Chiro1Source, we’re always on the hunt for innovative products that will make life easier for chiropractors and patients. This spring, we found one we think is truly remarkable: the B-Rite Back, a portable lumbar support cushion that’s perfect for summer.
This mid-sized cushion is made from Memory Foam and can strap onto almost any chair to provide relief to people with chronic back pain or lower back injuries. It has adjustable straps, a removable cover that is waterproof, hook-and-release clips that are easy to use, and, best of all, a game-changing pocket for a hot or cold pack. When you’re camping, at the beach, or taking a road trip, the B-Rite Back is an ideal companion. The cushion was the brainchild of risk management expert Rod Jahner and foam chemistry specialist Bob Weber, who have been friends for decades. The idea popped into Rod’s head on a joint beach vacation while he was looking for a way to make his wife, who has back problems, more comfortable.
Don’t get me wrong. I make it perfectly clear to each new team member that when we say, "Take care of team members," we don’t mean welfare and we don’t mean babysitting. We mean “providing team members with a means of helping them achieve their work and personal goals.” Keith Lee is the author of two books on customer service and the originator of The Make-You-Happy Customer Service System. You can get his book, “The Happy Customer Handbook” for free. Go to TheHappyCustomerHandbook.com.
“Five years ago, my wife couldn't sit in beach chairs anymore,” Rod explains, “So I got a Memory Foam pillow, some beach umbrella material, and straps from Ace Hardware. Then I went to the tailor with a drawing of the product and said, ‘I want you to make it!’ The big thing was that the pillow needed a waterproof cover for beach use, and there wasn’t anything like that on the market.” Bob loved the idea and offered to combine his product development experience with Rod’s business acumen to take it to the next level. Over the next five years, the pair worked with chiropractors, pain management specialists, and back surgeons to fine- tune the design, changing the cushion’s shape and density and adding the revolutionary front pocket. “We went through three manufacturers to get the quality control we wanted,” Rod recalls. “There were a few disasters along the way, but we stayed at it and persevered, and nowwe have something we think is a pretty darn good product.” Josh saw the B-Rite Back’s potential immediately. He put the product through our rigorous testing process and was thrilled when it passed with flying colors. This summer, we made our partnership with Rod and Bob official and added the B-Rite Back to our inventory!
