Powered by Genetics ... Koester Red Angus combines over 20 years of genomic DNA testing with practical, hands-on selection to deliver bulls that perform both on paper and in the pasture. While advanced data drives our decisions, we never compromise structure, muscle and phenotype. Our bulls are built to produce efficient, high-performing cattle and long-lasting females – ensuring commercial cattlemen get results that are as reliable as they are profitable. Proven Genetics. Reliable, Profitable Results.

The second set of age-advantaged bulls begins on page 48 with Lot 116.

The third set begins on page 64 with Lot 181.

Advantage of Age-Advantaged Bulls We designed our fall-calving program to give you the option of age-advantaged bulls. Those extra months of maturity don’t necessarily mean they’ll cover more cows, but they do help them hold body condition and come in after breeding season in good rig. We develop them on pasture with minimal supplementation and we cull hard for performance, foot structure and disposition – because longevity and soundness matter to your bottom line. A note about performance data: Fall-born calves earn their numbers in tough conditions. Winter breeding and nursing take extra energy, so actual weights can undersell their genetic potential. We place heavy emphasis on EPDs and breed percent ranks backed by more than 20 years of genomic data – tools that remove environmental noise and reveal true performance potential. We’re raising bulls that add pounds to steers and sire productive daughters, paying their way year after year.

Sometimes the best-laid plans go awry … In November 2023, we had everything lined out. Sires selected to advance our sale offering, matings planned through RightMate, and our AI crew ready to roll as the sun started to pink the eastern sky. Then we gathered the cows – all synchronized for time breeding – and our hearts fell (and blood pressure spiked). The sale bulls had torn down 60 feet of fence and were happily “co-mingling” with cows at the peak of estrus. Tension was high is an understatement. But the plan was the plan, so we moved forward and AI’d as scheduled. As we walked into the AI barn, our son-in-law – and bull customer – Jake Jacobson, cracked a grin and said, “Well, I hope you have confidence in your genetics.” Fast forward to this crop of bulls (and a little extra sorting through DNA results), and we can assure you those sale bulls were fertile and virile. You’ll notice multiple sires in this offering that trace back to that fateful November day. You’ll also notice we’re starting the sale with three of those bulls, and nearly half of our first draft is sired by our own genetics. To us, that’s a testament to generations of genetic decisions – and a strong cow herd that anchors our program. Bid with confidence. You’re buying the same quality as always – and yes, we do have confidence in our genetics.

Winter breeding poses extra challenges for our fall herd. Our cows must breed during blizzards, long frigid spells and naturally shorter daylight hours. Likewise, the calves must grow during these conditions and wean in March. We have a zero-tolerance policy and sell all open cows.
