Concentration Requirements For those seeking to supplement their study of literature with theoretical and vocational training in writing, this concentration (36 units) requires students to take four specialized studies in writing (340, 343, 344 and 410) in addition to the English core courses.
In addition to the three English courses taken for general education credit (ENGL 110A, 110B, and one’s choice of 251, 252, 253, 281, 282, or 283), all students of English must complete 24 units in required core courses: select from ENGL 251, 252, 253, 281, 282, and 283 (comprising at least two British and two American Literature classes including the course chosen for general education); 290, 360, 370, 390, and 400. English: Secondary Instruction
Concentration Requirements For those interested in teaching English at the high school level, this concentration provides coursework that, combined with successfully passing the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET), leads to a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in English. The Secondary Instruction concentration consists of 43 units. In addition to the English core, students in this concentration are required to take seven courses. The following courses are to be taken. Student teaching (LEDU 450 and 452) may be completed at the graduate level.
