Clear Credential & Master’s Programs Opportunities Candidates may apply their Clear Credential graduate coursework towards the Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed.) or Masters of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.). Transfer of Units For Biola University to recommend a candidate for their Clear Credential, all advanced clear credential courses, as well as a minimum of 21 of the 30 required graduate units, must be taken at Biola University.

Learning Outcomes Students graduating with the M.A.T. will demonstrate the six learning outcomes (#1 through #6 as listed in the Preliminary Credential Requirements section) and two additional outcomes (#7 and #8) related to being a constructive change agent and a lifelong learner. The eight outcomes exceed the teaching performance expectations required by the state for a professional teacher.

7. Understands Current Educational Issues and Demonstrates Skill as an agent of Constructive Change.

Candidates analyze, evaluate, and apply knowledge of current educational issues, settings, and legislative requirements from a biblical perspective, stay up-to-date and involved in community issues, giving voice to Judeo-Christian values in the educational arena. Candidates also possess Christian attitudes and actions conducive to the development of professional excellence and witness to the community, demonstrating qualities of a constructive change agent in the educational community to advance the Kingdom of God.

Master of Arts in Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) is primarily designed for two audiences: 1) students with a B.A or B.S. in any subject who desire to earn a credential while working towards a Masters; and 2) credentialed teachers who desire to sharpen their practitioner skills through induction, the Clear Credential, and/or enter a personalized program for advanced coursework.

8. Conducts Quality Research, Communicates Findings, and Pursues Lifelong Learning.

Admissions Requirements The following are required for admission into the M.A.T.:

Candidates conduct quality action research in their classrooms or schools, learning from natural revelation, in order to effectively communicate findings to the broader educational community. They demonstrate professional research ethics, protect human subjects, and exercise discernment, individually and in team settings, creatively solving problems as contextual needs emerge within the educational community. They are committed to lifelong learning and professional growth, embracing a lifestyle of service to others as an act of worship to the one true God.

• Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution

• Hold a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale

• Present evidence of passing CBEST or equivalent

• Present letter verifying completion of a state-approved subject matter program or evidence of passing at least one subtest of the CSET

• Submit Live Scan clearance paperwork

• Submit a passing score on the TOEFL and/or TWE passing score earned for international students before admission

• Complete Biola University’s Graduate Education Application

• Interview with a member of the School of Education
