&/#3&'r#3*&'4 DSBEO FISCAL REPORT The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) received an updated fiscal report for the 2018-2019 term costs for operations. Trustees received the report during their December 18 session. The estimates in this report were sent to the Ministry of Education December 15, the same day that the ministry issued a surprise memo to all school districts about a planned $25 million funding cut for special support services, which will affect all schools in the province. The report trustees reviewed estimated $188.8 million in total expenditures for the CDSBEO during the current school term with a possible operating deficit of $632,000 due to a transportation rates arbitration order dealing with the past three terms. The CDSBEO might have had a $1.9 million operating surplus for this term if not for the arbitration order. Trustees will receive further updates in February and May 2019, noting the impact of the surprise funding cuts. – Gregg Chamberlain (SNC) is seeking more volunteers to sit on its advisory committees or help with some of the regional conservation group’s projects and programs during the next year. The SNC manages 4,384 square kilometers of forest and wetland habitat in the Eastern Ontario region wit- hin the South Nation River watershed. Besides filling vacancies on advisory committees, the SNC needs volunteers to assist with park and public conserva- tion area cleanup, monitoring programs for fish and wildlife, habitat restoration work, tree planting, and other activities, including education and awareness presentations during public events. SNC volunteer work can help students fill their community hours quotas. Les amateurs de ski de fond pourraient être forcés d’attendre avant de pouvoir enfiler leurs skis et parcourir la Forêt Larose. Authorities overseeing the Larose Forest were dismayed to find two cases of extensive damage to trails. According to supervisor Nicholas Gauthier, one stretch of the trail was damaged by VTT’s and another by a Jeep type vehicle.
