La Pétillerie

La Pétillerie was a noble farmhouse and part of the Roullet estate. It was originally owned by the Langallerie family, the lords of Roullet. In the 17th century it was bought by Fran- çois de Nesmond, a lawyer at the presidial court, and his wife Françoise Terrasson. The estate was then inherited by his son Pierre de Nesmond who married Éléonore de FAYARD in 1661. Éléonore was then widowed. On 11 February 1667 she married the equerry Jean Terrasson, squire of La Faye. La Pétillerie remained for a long time in his family. The buildings stood around three sides of a rectangular courtyard. The main buil- ding was on the northern side. It stood between two square lodges with pyramid-shaped roofs. The northern façade has changed the least. The bay windows on the first floor are covered with a segmental arch. The small, rectangular openings with chamfered edges give light to the storey added above. On the building's south façade, opposite the main building, is a brattice with an arrowslit. It overlooks a rounded door that is today walled up. Achille TERRASSON, squire of Verneuil and *La Pétillerie (Roullet), married Hippolyte LAMBERT des ANDREAUX on 5 February 1695 (Tricoire, p. 293). On 2 February 1720, he died in *La Pétillerie, a property 2 leagues from Les Andreaux, where, as its name sug- gests, there were vineyards producing sparkling wine ("vin pétillant" in French). (*La Pétillerie where ALEXANDRE de Terrasson de Montleau lived as a child. He was just 11 years old when he was taken to the Château de Versailles as a page boy of his Majesty, to complete his education).
