Page boy for Louis XVI, Deputy for Charente

Alexandre, André René Gabriel de Terrasson de Montleau, a former page to King Louis XVI, was a sub-lieutenant in the French Guards regiment in 1789 and a deputy for Charente. He left France as an "émigré" in 1790. On his return, in the Year XIII (1804), he bought the An- dreaux estate. The ANDREAUX domain soon became a modern farming estate under the impact of policies launched by the Duke de Liancourt and Turgot, for whom Jean de Terrasson de Montleau was briefly the secretary. The farm buildings were built in an enclosed courtyard behind the main house. The Andreaux domain in the 18th century was vast, thought to cover over 1000 hec- tares.
