ENGL 433 - CSET Preparation Class Preparation for the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) for those pursuing the Secondary Instruction concentration. Recommended for Juniors in their Fall semester. Students must pass all parts of the CSET exam during the first semester of their Senior year in order to apply for student teaching during the Secondary Curriculum course (LEDU 435). Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 3 of the following: 251, 252, 253, 281, 282, 283. Unit(s): 1. ENGL 440 - Studies in Major Authors An in-depth study of the works of one or more significant authors with attention to the chronological development of the author ΚΌ s style, main themes and relationship to the literary tradition. Sections offered include such authors as Chaucer, Milton, Wordsworth and Coleridge, Faulkner, and Hemingway. Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 220 or 230 or 251 or 252 or 281 or 282. Unit(s): 3. ENGL 454 - Studies in Literary Theory Applied studies of literature using selected theoretical methodologies. Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 3 of the following: 251, 252, 253, 281, 282, 283; and 390. Unit(s): 3. ENGL 460 - Studies in Literary Genre Studies in a specific literary genre such as, poetry, drama, the novel and film. Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 220 or 230 or 251 or 252 or 281 or 282. Unit(s): 3. ENGL 471 - Honors Seminar An honors research project developed in consultation with a faculty advisor and approved by an English faculty committee which includes the department chair. Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 3 of the following: 251, 252, 253, 281, 282, 283; 360, 370, 390, and 400; senior-level standing. Unit(s): 3. ENGL 481 - Studies in World Literature Specialized studies of global literatures focusing on authors, periods, and / or movements from literary traditions other than the United States and Britain. Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 3 of the following: 251, 252, 253, 281, 282, 283; 290; and 390. Unit(s): 3. ENGL 482 - Studies in Ethnic Literature Specialized studies of race and ethnicity in literatures of the United States and Britain. Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 3 of the following: 251, 252, 253, 281, 282, 283; 290; and 390. Unit(s): 3. ENGL 490 - English Practicum Practical experience in English teaching, editing and / or research at the college level. Prerequisite(s): 100 or 112; 113; 220 or 230 or 251 or 252 or 281 or 282. Note(s): Limited enrollment. Unit(s): 1 - 3. ENGL 491 - Senior Thesis An individualized research project developed in consultation with a faculty advisor and approved by an English faculty committee which includes the department chair. Students completing the thesis must also participate in intensive GRE preparation. This course is required for those pursuing the Honors Graduate Studies Preparation track. Interested students should submit their qualifications and proposals to the course instructor whose approval is required for enrollment.
