2. Students receiving the highest priority for acceptance into the clinical nursing program meet the following criteria in addition to meeting the minimum admission criteria stated in number 1 above. • Have a GPA of 3.3 or higher, combining GPA ʼ s from all colleges attended. • Have a total science GPA of 3.0 or higher on all pre- requisite science courses taken at Biola or transferred in from other colleges. When a science is repeated, both the original grade and the repeated grade are included in computing the science GPA. • Have taken at least 3 of the pre-requisite science courses at Biola. • Have not had to repeat pre-requisite science courses for C- or below at Biola or at other college(s). • Will have completed 4 semesters at Biola before entering the clinical nursing program. 3. Additional factors which are considered in the selection process which may enhance an applicant ʼ s potential for admission include, but are not limited to, the following: • Work experience of any kind. Additional consideration is given for those with work experience in health care settings. • Volunteer experiences. Additional consideration is given for those with volunteer experience in health care settings. • Leadership activities at church, high school, or college. • Cross-cultural experiences. • Special abilities such as: fluent in language(s) (including sign) other than English, unique computer skills, etc. • Official school, church or community sponsored extra curricular activities. • Significant family responsibilities. After Being Accepted into Biola's Clinical Nursing Program A student is required to have, at his / her own expense, a background check, urine drug screen, yearly physical examination, specific laboratory tests and immunizations, American Heart Association CPR / AED certification for the health care professional rescuer, a valid driver ʼ s license, proof of personal car insurance and a current passport by June 15. Late fees are assessed. Students will not be permitted to the clinical agency without these. Each student is assessed for liability insurance through the University when participating in clinical courses. The University and cooperating agencies assume no responsibility for illness or accidents occurring during the school program. In addition, each student must have a personal digital assistant (PDA) and laptop computer (technical specifications are available upon request from the Nursing Department). Students must arrange for their own transportation to clinical agencies as the University does not provide transportation. Students must have access to a vehicle throughout the clinical nursing program. Parking fees are the responsibility of the student. CPR certification must be renewed annually throughout the clinical nursing program. A list of potential fees and costs throughout the clinical nursing program is available upon request from the Nursing Department. Theory and clinical must be taken concurrently in courses with a clinical component. One unit of theory equals one clock hour, and one unit of clinical equals three clock hours. Because of their importance, it is mandatory to attend course and clinical orientations to proceed in nursing courses. A student must earn a

Note The general education requirement for a foreign language for nursing majors is two years of the same high school language or four units of a college language. Nursing majors are exempt from general education requirements of literature (3) and history (three of six units required). Admission Requirements Admission to Biola University, as a pre-nursing major or otherwise, does not guarantee admission into the clinical nursing program. Admission into the clinical nursing program is competitive and there is a separate application process. Merely meeting the minimum criteria listed below does not guarantee admission into the clinical nursing program. Student selection into the clinical nursing program is exclusively determined by the full-time nursing faculty members. Selected students must then meet all departmental criteria including health physical and immunization documentation, criminal background check, CPR for health care professionals, and payments of all fees. 1. Minimum admission criteria required of all applicants for acceptance into the clinical nursing program include the following: • Be a student in good standing at Biola University with no history of cheating, behavioral or other disciplinary problems. • Submission of complete application and supporting documents by designated deadline. • Submit satisfactory personal references as described on the application form. • Submit a well-written biographical sketch meeting the criteria described on the application form. • Demonstrate adequate English language and grammar writing skills on a paper written at the time of the group interview. • Demonstrate critical thinking and effective communication ability in a group interview. • Performance above 67 on the comprehensive TEAS nursing pre-admission test. • Earn SAT scores for the 3 tests totaling above 1410. • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher combining GPA ʼ s from all colleges attended. • Have earned a minimum grade of “C” (2.0) in all pre- requisite courses which include the pre-requisite sciences courses [BIOS 254 Human Anatomy, BIOS 281 Physiology, CHEM 112 Principles of Organic & Biochemistry, BIOS 282 Microbiology], communications [100, 170, 181, or 280], English 112 and 113, NURS 110 First Aid / CPR, and PSYC 200 Introduction to Psychology.
