Special Education The School of Education at Biola University offers an online institution-sponsored 12-unit certificate in Special Education. This certificate assists regular classroom teachers who serve special needs students, teachers who plan to later earn their Special Education Credential, and administrators and curriculum specialists who desire to strengthen their special education expertise. The 12- unit Special Education Certificate can be taken as a stand-alone program or can be embedded as part of a 15-unit concentration in Biola ʼ s M.A.T. Personalized or M.A.Ed. Personalized programs. Admission Requirements • Have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale • Present evidence of passing the CBEST or equivalent • Verify possession of Certificate of Clearance from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing • Complete Biola University ʼ s Graduate Education Application • Interview with a member of the School of Education Note Official documents presented for admission or evaluation become part of the student's academic file and normally cannot be returned or copied for distribution.

Master of Arts in Teaching (On-Campus) Master of Arts in Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) is primarily designed for two audiences: 1) students with a B.A. or B.S. in any subject who desire to earn a credential while working towards a Masters; and 2) credentialed teachers who desire to sharpen their practitioner skills through induction, the Clear Credential, and / or enter a personalized program for advanced coursework. Learning Outcomes Students graduating with the M.A.T. will demonstrate the seven learning outcomes (#1 through #7 as listed in the Preliminary Credentials section) and two additional outcomes (#8 and #9) related to being a constructive change agent and a lifelong learner. The nine outcomes exceed the teaching performance expectations required by the state for a professional teacher. 8. Understands Current Educational Issues and Demonstrates Skill as an agent of Constructive Change. Candidates analyze, evaluate, and apply knowledge of current educational issues, settings, and legislative requirements from a biblical perspective, stay up-to-date and involved in community issues, giving voice to Judeo-Christian values in the educational arena. Candidates also possess Christian attitudes and actions conducive to the development of professional excellence and witness to the community, demonstrating qualities of a constructive change agent in the educational community to advance the Kingdom of God. 9. Conducts Quality Research, Communicates Findings, and Pursues Lifelong Learning. Candidates conduct quality action research in their classrooms or schools, learning from natural revelation, in order to effectively communicate findings to the broader educational community. They demonstrate professional research ethics, protect human subjects, and exercise discernment, individually and in team settings, creatively solving problems as contextual needs emerge within the educational community. They are committed to lifelong learning and professional growth, embracing a lifestyle of service to others as an act of worship to the one true God. Admission Requirements The following are required for admission into the M.A.T.: • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. • Hold a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. • Present evidence of passing CBEST or equivalent. Students living outside the U.S. wanting to pursue the Master of Arts in Teaching Personalized Program must present alternate admissions documentation for review and approval in place of the CBEST exam.
