• Verify subject matter competency. Multiple Subject candidates must pass one subtest of the CSET: Multiple Subjects exam. Single Subject candidates must present a letter verifying completion of a state-approved subject matter program or evidence of passing one subtest of the CSET in their subject area. • Verify possession of a Certificate of Clearance from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. • Submit a passing score on the TOEFL and / or TWE passing score earned for international students before admission. • Complete Biola University's Graduate Education Application. • Interview with a member of the School of Education. Those applying to the M.A.T. with the Clear Credential or Induction coursework will need the following additional admissions requirements: • Hold a California SB2042 Preliminary Credential in place of verification of CBEST and subject matter. • Clear Credential Candidates must verify that a commission-approved induction program is not available through their employer by submitting the CL-855 CTC form. Induction Candidates must provide verification of enrollment in a state-approved induction program. • Clear Credential Candidate must submit the Coach and Placement Information form. Note: Official documents presented for admission or evaluation become part of the student ʼ s academic file and normally cannot be returned or copied for distribution. Program Requirements Students may earn the Master of Arts in Teaching with a minimum of 30 units if they have completed their methodology coursework as undergraduates at Biola University or if they enter the Master of Arts in Teaching program as a credentialed teacher. Coursework There are three phases to the M.A.T. coursework: Phase I of M.A.T. coursework: Teaching Methodology Coursework and Pedagogy Courses Phase I requires the teacher preparation coursework that precedes student teaching. For those students completing their teacher preparation coursework as Biola undergraduates, these units will be waived. Students who earned a credential from an institution other than Biola also begin at Phase II. Complete Single Subject or Multiple Subject Coursework as detailed below. Note Students completing a state-approved induction program may apply up to 12 units of Biola student teaching graduate credit to their M.A. in Teaching in lieu of induction units. However, students must complete the state-approved induction program and earn a Clear credential prior to receiving the M.A.T. degree.
