Torrey Off-campus Programs Torrey offers opportunities to live and study away from the Biola campus for credit. Torrey Berkeley is a course in Berkeley, California. Students read books, attend lectures, participate in discussion groups, visit cultural points of interest, and are involved in practical ministry. Torrey Europe is a course in selected parts of Europe. It provides students with four units. Students read books prior to the trip and are led by Torrey tutors in integrating that reading, and their other Torrey readings, with the cultural and religious heritage of Europe. Torrey Rome is a course in Rome, Italy. Students read assigned books, participate in discussion groups, visit museums, churches and other cultural / historical points of interest. Torrey Abroad is a course offered in selected overseas locations in which students teach in public schools and work with local Christian organizations. The units from these programs may be applied to Morgan House 310, 325, 410 and / or 465 or Johnson House 304, 401 and / or 402. With approval, 492 may be substituted in place of the Torrey Honors Thesis, YMDT 480. Torrey Berkeley Torrey Berkeley consists of an intensive tutorial experience, usually in the summer. Students read books, attend lectures, participate in discussion groups, may visit cultural points of interest, and may be involved in practical ministry. While residing at a campus ministry facility beside the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, students have the opportunity for spiritual bonding and intellectual growth in a more intensive and intimate environment than is possible during the school year. They are supervised and led by a tutor in the Torrey Honors Institute and are able to interact with other stimulating leaders. • YMDT 492 - Torrey Off-campus Unit(s): 1 - 4. Torrey Europe Torrey Europe is a tour and course in Europe, offered in the summer. It provides students with four credits in the Torrey program. Students read books prior to the tour and are led by Torrey tutors in integrating that reading, and their other Torrey readings, with the cultural and religious heritage of Europe. Students will gain historical, archaeological, and cultural insights into the origin and development of Western civilization and Christianity. Torrey Rome Torrey Rome is composed of twenty students and one Torrey tutor who travel and live together in Rome during Interterm where they have sessions on assigned reading and view and discuss Rome ʼ s great art and architecture. Though the theme of the reading requirements differ each year, Rome ʼ s history, both Christian and pagan, is always a focus of the trip. Participants visit the famed Borghese Museum, the four major Roman basilicas, the catacombs, the Colosseum and Roman Forum and the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel. • YMDT 492 - Torrey Off-campus Unit(s): 1 - 4.
