My Dear Brothers, Words cannot express the outpouring of love and support you have given me and my family during this process of dealing with my father’s passing during the Province Council. It is much appreciated by my family, and we are eternally grateful. That is brotherhood at its finest. In the words of my Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Willie Hopkins, “That’s the brotherhood I know.” What a wonderful and progressive fraternal year we just experienced as it was capped off with a successful Province Council in Charleston, SC. Hats off to the brothers and silhouettes of the “Lowcountry Coalition of Kappas,” better known as the L.o.C.K. You all made the experience easy and one to remember. We were equally gracious to have our Senior Grand Vice Polemarch, Attorney Robert L. Jenkins in attendance as our guest and closed banquet speaker. It was a pleasure to have him with us in his hometown. We have a momentous year ahead of us as we launch this administration’s new platform of “Operation 100.” We are preparing for innovative programs outlined in the “State of the Province Address” and we have already begun the work to implement those. As stated, Brother Dr. Leo Brown will lead the charge in developing our inaugural leadership development program. We will continue to lean towards increasing the list of corporate sponsorships. Brother Anthony Clark has agreed to lead that effort as our newly appointed Corporate Affairs Chair. Brother Antonio Martez, who has been instrumental in our other sponsorships, will continue to keep those relationships advancing and assist Brother Clark. Regarding communications, we are poised to launch our centennial rewrite of the province history book. This project, led by Brother Dr. Christopher Johnson, will be this province’s biggest rewrite. Additionally, I have asked Brother Solomon Shaheen to produce a historical documentary on this region. Lastly, one program we are looking forward to is the joint C. Roger Wilson Leadership Conference in 2025 in conjunction with the Southern Province. This event has been introduced as a celebration as both provinces have milestones occurring in 2026. The Southern Province will celebrate 75 years of existence and, of course, our province’s 100th anniversary. I will leave you with this. We invite you to be part of the transformation of the province. We are looking for you! In fact, we cannot do it without you. Yours in the bond.

PROVINCE POLEMARCH'S SPOTLIGHT POLEMARCH'S SPOTLIGHT BROTHER DR. JOSEPH W. DUCKSWORTH C. RODGER WILSON LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE, CHAIRMAN

How did you get started working with CRWLC? Prior to working with CRWLC, I always enjoyed and looked forward the content of the conference’s officer training and leadership modules. In 2016, I was asked to be the vice-chair CRWLC, as Bro. Kelly Bennet served as the chairman. After assisting in planning and navigating a successful 2016 CRWLC, I was appointed to be Chairman of the CRWLC, Southeastern Province; by Bro. E. Delane Rosemond, Immediate Past Province Polemarch. I’m grateful for opportunity to continue serving in the role, after being re-appointed by Bro. Brian C. Mock, Province Polemarch. What do you enjoy most about working with CRWLC? The thing I enjoy most is providing Brothers with leadership module content, that will enhance their lives within their families, the fraternity and their communities. I also enjoy providing modules that will promote leadership interaction activity among Undergraduate and Alumni Brothers. Overall, my enjoyment comes from a successful conference that is consistent with Bro. C. Rodger Wilson’s vision of "Training for Leadership!" What is the most time-consuming thing about working with CRWLC? The most time-consuming thing with CRWLC is the planning. The planning not only involves finding the location and quality content, but also finding adequate presenters for each chosen module. What are some things that you wish brothers know about planning and executing CRWLC? I think Brothers would be surprised to know that the planning is actively ongoing, all year long. Once we finish the current year’s CRWLC, the

planning for the next year has often already begun. To ensure proper and seamless execution, each officer training and leadership module has been thoroughly vetted and rehearsed. As province chairman, I’m part of the National CRWLC Committee that meets monthly to discuss, plan and implement modules that will be consistent throughout the twelve provinces of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. What are your future goals for CRWLC in the Southeastern Province? My future goals are: 1. Southeastern Province to continue setting the pace for innovative, interactive, and informative content for CRWLC. 2. Increase Undergraduate attendance and participation at CRWLC. 3. Increase attendance of all Brothers, encouraging and informing all that training is not just for chapter officers and/or aspiring officers. What is on the horizon for CRWLC as a whole? In an effort to provide uniformity among the provinces, the National CRWLC has developed recorded officer training modules that will be accessible for all Brothers via the official website and/or the Kappa University website. These modules will be narrated in PowerPoint and provide assessments at the end. This will provide officers and non- officers access to general role training prior to CRWLC and allow for more specific or additional training during the conference. We are also continuing to work on developing a list of uniform leadership modules and general session activities.

Share your Kappa story. (What lead you to join Kappa Alpha Psi?, Date and Chapter of initiation, etc.) I was initiated at the Carrollton- Douglasville (GA) Alumni Chapter (SE), on November 19, 2010. Being someone who constantly strives for Achievement and Excellence in all aspects of life, becoming a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has allowed me to be involved with men who share similar qualities and characteristics.

MESSAGE FROM PROVINCE CHAPLAIN

FAITH OVER FEAR

In the New Testament, Jesus repeatedly tells His followers not to be afraid. In John 14:27, He says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Jesus offers us a peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace that can calm our fears and guide us through any storm. I encourage each of you to consider the following steps to overcome fear when it arises in your lives: 1. Prayer: Start each day with prayer, asking God to fill your heart with faith and to dispel any fear. Lay your worries at His feet and trust in His plan for your life. 2. Scripture Reading: Immerse yourself in God’s Word. Find strength and comfort in the promises found in the Bible. Memorize verses that speak to your heart and repeat them during times of fear. 3. Fellowship: Surround yourself with a community of believers. Share your fears and pray for one another. There is power in unity and mutual support. 4. Service: Focus on helping others. Acts of kindness and service can shift your perspective from your fears to the needs of others, reminding you of God’s work in the world. 5. Faith Declarations: Speak words of faith over your life. Affirm your trust in God’s protection, provision, and guidance. Declare that fear has no place in your heart. As we journey together in faith, let us remember that we are not alone. We have each other and, most importantly, we have a God who is greater than any fear we may face. Stand firm in your faith, brothers, and let us encourage one another to live boldly and fearlessly in Christ.

Greetings My Brothers in the Bond,

I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Today, I write to you with a message that resonates deeply within our spiritual journey: Faith Over Fear. In our lives, we often encounter moments that challenge our faith and stir up fear within us. These moments may come in the form of personal struggles, family issues, health concerns, or uncertainties about the future. However, as men of faith, we are called to rise above these fears and place our trust in God’s unwavering promises. The Bible is rich with verses that encourage us to choose faith over fear. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." This powerful promise assures us that we are never alone, and God’s strength is always available to us.

In Faith and Fellowship, Brother Rev. Dr. Vardy A. Freeman Southeastern Province Chaplain

98th Southeastern Province Council Thursday, April 18th - Sunday, April 21st Charleston, South Carolina Written by : Brother Tyran L. White, SE Province Reporter

The brothers of the Southeastern Province returned to the Charleston, South Carolina area to handle the annual business of our great fraternity. The last Province Council held in Charleston was in 2018 and hosted by the Charleston (SC) Alumni Chapter. For the 98th Southeastern Province Council, the six chapters of the Lowcountry Coalition of Kappas, also known as the LoCK, worked together to bring a unique province council experience to brothers of the Southeastern Province, their Silhouettes, and visiting guests. The LoCK consists of the Beaufort-Jasper- Hilton Head (SC) Alumni, Charleston (SC) Alumni, Moncks Corner (SC) Alumni, Walterboro (SC) Alumni Chapters along with the undergraduate brothers from the College of Charleston Chapter, the Eta Iota, and

the Charleston Southern University Chapter, the Omicron Mu. All the registered delegates and brothers were greeted with smiling faces, warm hospitality, and custom-branded flasks from A Nupe’s Kloset. 98th Southeastern Province Council officially opened with our Public Meeting held at the Charleston Area Convention Center. the event was well attended by brothers, their Silhouettes, members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and community members. Brother Raphael James, the Evening Anchor at one of the local news stations, served as the Master of Ceremonies. Those in attendance were greeted by Reginald Burgess, Mayor of the City of North Charleston; Kendra Woody-Simmons, President of the Charleston Chapter of the NPHC; and

Janice Coats-Hardy, the Southeastern Province Silhouettes Coordinator. National Gospel Recording Artist and local native Kelontae Gavin provided electrifying entertainment as the special guest for the event. As part of the Public Meeting, the host chapter(s) present service awards to deserving members of their communities. Each chapter of the LoCK presented these awards to individuals selected by their members. The awardees were: ‣ Brother Larry Sanders by the Beaufort-Jasper-Hilton Head (SC) Alumni Chapter ‣ Enoch Dickerson, III, Mayor of Lincolnville, SC, by the Charleston (SC) Alumni Chapter ‣ Gregory Perry by the Moncks

Corner (SC) Alumni Chapter ‣ Dr. Joyce Washington Davis by the Walterboro (SC) Alumni Chapter Province Polemarch Brian C. Mock provided remarks to bring the Public Meeting to a close. After the event, the host chapters provided delegates and members with a mixer at the Top Golf facility near the convention center. Business meetings began Friday morning. In the first session, Province Polemarch Mock presented his State of the Province address to highlight the achievements over the past year and address the remaining needs of the province. The brothers in attendance had the honor of receiving the State of the Grand Chapter report from Brother Robert L. Jenkins, Jr., ESQ, Senior Grand Vice Polemarch of our fraternity. Afterward, Brothers Mock and Jenkins provided a question-and- answer session fielding questions from brothers in the room. During the second business session, the brothers were presented with reports from the various committee chairmen in the province. Two awards were presented during this session: the Reclamation Awards by Brother Deaderick Jones and the Website of the Year Awards by

Brother Tyran White. Normally, the Undergraduate brothers would host the Miss Southeastern Province Pageant on the Friday evening of Province Council, but due to unforeseeable circumstances, the pageant was canceled. However, the host chapters hosted the highly anticipated Seafood Fest at the North Charleston Fire Museum. Attendees had the opportunity to experience the amazing local cuisine, chill out with a cigar from a mobile cigar lounge, and party to the sounds of a local DJ. Saturday brought another day of business sessions and meetings. It also brought the Undergraduate Luncheon. Brother Justin Harris, then Junior Province Vice Polemarch, served as the speaker with the message “What is a Diamond in the Rough?” Several Undergraduate brothers were honored with awards for their academic and service achievements throughout the school year on their respective campuses and communities. That evening, during the Closed Banquet, the brothers were entertained by the smooth sounds of special guests. The special guests were none other than the “Sweet Silhouettes,” a group of Silhouettes singing their rendition of the “My Guy.” The last, but the least, awards were recognized during the event. The

J. Michael Graves Alumni Chapters of the Year were presented to the small, medium, and large chapter winners. The highlight of the Closed Banquet was the riveting message by Senior Grand Vice Polemarch Jenkins entitled “There’s Power in a Name!” During his message, he shared some of his life experiences while growing up in the downtown area of Charleston. He reminded the brothers to continue their efforts to honor the name of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated in “Every Field of Human Endeavor.” Before the conclusion of the event, the election results were announced and the 2024-2025 Southeastern Province Officers were sworn in. After the Closed Banquet, the host chapters sponsored the “Kloseout Affair” the bring the 98th Southeastern Province Council to a close for majority of the delegates and brothers. On Sunday, most of the brothers and their Silhouettes took to the airways, highways, and byways to return to their homes or next destinations. A handful of brothers joined the newly elected officers in their first Province Board Meeting. At the end of the meeting, this year’s Province Council was officially brought to a conclusion. We look forward to seeing the brothers in 2025 as we begin our “Road to 100!”

DECATUR (GA) ALUMNI CHAPTER Legacies Unfolding

Brother Israel Beard, a dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi, has shown unwavering commitment to both his fraternity and his career. Brother Beard was initiated into the Beta Lambda Chapter in 1955 at Lane College. After a stint in the military, Brother Beard pursued a career in education, earning advanced degrees, while actively contributing to Kappa Alpha Psi, notably in the Milwaukee (WI) Alumni Chapter. Having personally met some of its founders and influential members, he reflects with pride on the fraternity's growth and international impact. Beard attended the fraternity's Centennial Celebration in 2011, envisioning a promising future for Kappa Alpha Psi. Now residing in Decatur, Georgia with his family, he remains a steadfast advocate for the fraternity's enduring legacy. Recently, Brother Beard's son-in-law, Brother Bryon Daily, and his grandson, Brother Eric Daily, were initiated into the Decatur (GA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on March 16th, 2024, adding to Beard's legacy and making the 21 Kutz of Kimberlite a unique chapter by having a son-in-law and grandson on the same line. With Brother Bryon Daily and Brother Eric Daily embracing the fraternity's principles, a new chapter in their family's Kappa journey began. As they embarked on their paths toward Kappa Land, Brother Beard couldn't help but reflect on his own initiation and early experiences, realizing the profound impact the fraternity had on his life. The 21 Kutz of Kimberlite boasts another trio legacy. Brother Eugene Wesley, who was also initiated into Decatur (GA) Alumni via the Spring 2024 Line, is part of the legacy that includes Uncle, James E. Willingham, Jr. (Decatur (GA) Alumni, Spring 2022) and Grandfather, James E. Willingham, Sr. (Pittsburgh (PA) Alumni Spring 1990). Brother Eugene Wesley's lineage, stretching across generations, underscores the rich tapestry of connections within the Decatur Alumni Chapter. Their shared history serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of Kappa Alpha Psi, inspiring both current and future members to uphold its traditions with pride and honor. As the chapter welcomed these new members and celebrated its heritage, Brother Beard and Brother Willingham found themselves filled with optimism for the future of their legacies in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Each day reaffirmed their beliefs in the fraternity's lasting impact on the lives of its members, reinforcing the values of brotherhood, service, and achievement that have guided Kappa Alpha Psi for generations. The Decatur (GA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi embraces and reveres the continuous lineage of these families as we continue to embrace ACHIEVEMENT in every field of human endeavor.

NEWNAN-FAIRBURN (GA) ALUMNI CHAPTER The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi Book Donation Initiative with the Newnan Fairburn (GA) Alumni Chapter

The Newnan-Fairburn (GA) Alumni Chapter accepted the charge to donate “The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi, 6th Edition” to two respective libraries within their service area. This request was initially proposed at a Book Signing event during Kappa Alpha Psi’s National Founder’s Day in New Orleans back in January 2024. The fraternity’s Grand Historian, Bro. Kevin Scott along with Bro. Aaron S. Williams, who were given the esteemed honor and responsibility to develop and release the 6th Edition of The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi, challenged all undergraduate and alumni chapters to purchase one of the books to strengthen knowledge of our fraternity’s rich history as well as demonstrate the achievements of various members of our great clan. The brothers of the chapter took on the challenge and decided to help with the cause. The book donation not only allows the public to learn more about the fraternity, it also allows the public to celebrate the accomplishments of our members throughout the fraternity’s 114-year history. Brother Kevin Scott personally thanked the brothers of NFAC saying, “The Newnan-

Fairburn (GA) Alumni Chapter has taken a significant step towards making our history available for others to learn about and foster knowledge about who we are and our relevancy by donating The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi, 6th Ed. to their local library, the Hobgood-Palmer Library in Fairburn, GA.” The brothers of the chapter also donated a copy to the Carnegie Library in Newnan, GA. Both institutions expressed their gratitude to the chapter for the donation and we encourage other chapters to accept the challenge to donate a copy of the Story of Kappa Alpha Psi, 6th Edition to the libraries in their service areas as well.

During Senior Kappa Week, as part of our National Service Projects, on May 11, 2024, the chapter collaborated with Habitat for Humanity of Coweta County (GA), to construct a house for a low-income first-time home buyer. Throughout the day, the brothers dedicated themselves to tasks such as installing insulation, placing ceramic tiles on walls, and set up kitchen appliances. Senior Kappa Brothers Ceasar Allen, Vincent Morrell, Kevin Taylor, and Daryl Mosby were actively involved in this meaningful project.

He entered the military (US Army) on May 26, 1944, and was honorably discharged May 18, 1946. Ulysses enrolled at Morris Brown College in September 1946. He was initiated into the Morris Brown College Chapter, The Beta Delta of Kappa Alpha Psi in 1948. He met the love of his life, a freshman by the name of Rubye Genelle Hollis in 1950 at Morris Brown. They were married in 1952 in Greenville, SC. Two sons were blessed to this union, Ulysses “Russ” Hollis, Jr., and Terry Keith Hollis (deceased). A grandson, Adam Russ Hollis was later conceived. Much of his time and energy has been devoted to Mount Olive Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for over 30 years, was named Man of the Year, and served as Financial Secretary for over 15 years. Brother Hollis was an active member of The Morris Brown Alumni Association, the Morris Brown Athletic Club (T.A.Y.), the Urban Villa Community Men’s Club, and the Atlanta (GA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, where he served as Vice-Polemarch and chaired the Social Committee. Brother Hollis was instrumental in moving the Black and White Formal Ball to a downtown Atlanta hotel. One of his greatest joys, however, was volunteering at the Dill Street Help Center; a ministry dedicated to serving those who were less fortunate for over 20 years.

Henry Clay Garner was born on June 17, 1924, in Waycross, Georgia to George and Julia Garner.

Mr. Garner has accomplished much in his years, but the thing he is most proud of was being a husband to his late wife Mrs. Diane M Garner for 42 years and being a father to his daughter, the late Ms. Henrietta Diane Garner. He has devoted over 70 years as a faithful steward at Flipper Temple AME church. He has served in leadership as a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Sons of Allen at Flipper Temple. He is a vital part of the Flipper Temple AME church family, where he is respected and admired by many. Brother Garner received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Morris Brown College in Education in 1957 and earned his Master’s degree from Clark Atlanta University in Leadership and Administration. He started his teaching career in the Clayton County school system at W.A. Fountain School. He was a science teacher at Forest Park Middle School, and he served as an Assistant Principal at Fountain Elementary school where he retired in 1992. He has assisted in the education of our children and the building of his community. His selfless acts of service and leadership have made a difference in the lives of many. He is an ambassador of goodwill in the district, providing leadership and service to all. He has been member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated since 1947. He is a champion of many worthy causes. Brother Garner is a man with a good heart, a positive outlook on life, and has an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
