In February 2024, the chapter celebrated 77 years of achievement. The Columbia (SC) Alumni Chapter was chartered on February 2, 1947. The chapter hosted a celebration gathering at the Brookland Banquet & Conference Center on February 18th. The keynote speaker was the Honorable Brother Clifton Newman. Brother Clifton Newman served as a Circuit Court judge in South Carolina for more than 2 decades and gained national prominence in handling some of the state’s most complex and high-profile cases as a trial judge. A year of commitment to the fraternity, their community, and each other was showcased as the chapter was awarded the 2023-2024 J. Michael Graves Chapter of the Year Award (Large Chapter) at the 98th Southeastern Province Council held in North Charleston, South Carolina, on April 18-21 (pictured at bottom of page). This award is a testament to the chapter’s commitment to “inspire service in the public interest” in Columbia and surrounding communities. While some members of the chapter were in Charleston for the Province Council, other brothers with many of their Kappa Leaguers were back in Columbia participating in the Walk MS event (pictured below). This event supports the fight against Multiple Sclerosis by raising awareness and funds for MS research and programs.
