WENTWOOD has some weight but his win here last start had plenty of merit. TRALEE ROSE keeps stepping up and would love it soft. ROBERT COOPER BAGOT (1828-1881) Bagot was Secretary of the Victoria Racing Club from its foundation in 1864 until his passing. A civil engineer also responsible for redesigning the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Mr. Bagot transformed Flemington from a boggy river flat to a popular venue with an excellent racing surface. He deserves much of the credit for having made the Melbourne Cup an Australian institution within a short period of its inception. Robert Cooper Bagot was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in the Associate category in 2004.
