In the UK we throw away the equivalent of 40 laptops every second. At the same time a quarter of young people in the West Midlands don’t have access to a computer at home. To try to address this problem, David started ReCognition Circular, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company promoting and enabling digital inclusion in Birmingham. ReCognition runs workshops to train young people to repair and refurbish computers. They support participants with finding fulfilling work that also helps eliminate e-waste. ReCognition offer Refurbished Devices as a Service (RDaaS). For businesses hesitant to use second hand devices they provide peace of mind by supporting and maintaining the devices. Having started on the Distance Learning programme in 2000, David was awarded an MBA from Warwick Business School in 2006. As a business and IT consultant, David spent over 20 years helping large global enterprises implement digital transformation, post-merger integration and other business change initiatives. That experience is now focused on advising organisations on sustainability strategy.
