"dry places.” When the living God comes to the “dry place” of any hu man heart, it is transformed into the place of streams of blessing. Points and Problems .1. "In the morning the dew lay round about the host" (Ex. 16:13). In the Scripture the dew is a symbol of blessing (Gen. 27:28; beut. 33:28; Psa. 133:3; Hos. 14:5). From April to Octo ber it seldom rains in the land of Palestine. But the dew is so heavy

almost every night that all verdure is drenched with necessary moisture. Thus God likens Himself to the re freshing dews of Palestine. In the les son text the dew came first, and then upon this blanket the manna fell. In the quiet, yet powerful ministry of the dew many see the workings of the Holy Spirit. Surely it was the Holy Spirit who was responsible for the coming of the true Bread from heav en, even our Lord Jesus. 2. "Upon the. face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing" (v. 14). Manna is suggestive of the humilia tion of Christ. He came not in pomp and princely glory. It was a thing of wonder, even as Christ’s name is Won derful (Isa. 9:6). It was the gift of God (v. 15). Thus Christ is God’s gift to men (John 3:16; 6:32). Manna had to be gathered (v. 16), Even so, faith must appropriate Christ (John 6*29, 40). This food was sufficient for every man, woman, and child (v. 18). There was “no lack” whether they gathered little or much. Thus Christ meets the total need for every believer (2 Cor. 5:21; Col. 2:10). Manna had to be used (v. 19). It could not be hoarded. To day believers must feed on Christ daily in order to grow spiritually strong. Finally, it was sweet to •the taste (v. 31). This is the testimony'of those who know the Lord. Golden Text Illustration M atthew 6:11 When James Gordon Bennett sent Henry M. Stanley to search for David Livingstone, he said: “Draw on me for a thousand pounds today to pro vide your equipment, and when that is exhausted, draw on me for another thousand, and when that is done, draw another; but find Livingstone.” God asks us to glorify Him by a life devoted to Him every day, and He authorizes us to draw on Him for the wisdom, grace, and strength needed to enable us to reach this end. When one day’s supply is exhausted, we are to draw another, and then another, and then another, until the comple ment of our days is filled. —The Sunday School Times. MEMORY VERSE: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father” (Jas. 1:17). APPROACH: "What shall we have for breakfast?” Sometimes that is the first thing we think about in the morning. Our lesson is about a happy breakfast surprise. LESSON STORY: The Lord’s people were going to the land that the Lord had promised to give them, and on the way they came to a wilderness, or des ert, where there was not much food or water.
