OBJECTS: Two large hearts cut from white paper, a bottle of clear water, a bottle of red ink, and two medicine droppers. (With a red pencil, write the word “SIN” on each of the hearts.) LESSON: These two hearts remind me of the children of Israel. They look clean and white when- we first look at them, but if I turn them around, I think we shall see something that should not be on them. Here it is— “SIN.” In Exodus 32:7, we read, “And the Lord said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.” While Moses was. on the mountain with God, the people were worshiping a golden calf. Even if the children of Israel had stopped sinning in this way, the sin would still have been in the heart. Some people make the mistake of thinking that pure thoughts and deeds will take away sin. We will drop a few drops of this clear water on one heart and see whether it takes away sin. No, clean thoughts and clean actions will not take away the sin that is already in the heart. There is just one way to be cleansed from sin. In Egypt God said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” I will drop sortie red ink on the. sin and we shall see what happens.. You no longer see the sin. It is covered with the red. God no longer sees the sin in our hearts wflieri we have ac cepted Christ as Saviour and have al lowed His blood to take away our sin (1 John 1:7). God sees only the blood of Christ. The children of Israel were forgiven on the basis of God’s mercy, for we read, “And the Lord passed by be fore him, and proclaimed, The Lord The Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in good- ness and truth” (Exv34:6). . /
God's Tent House E xodus 33 :7-9 :
MEMORY VERSE: “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord” (Psa. 122:1). APPROACH: Have you ever tied a string to your finger to help you re member something? God wanted His people to remember always that He was with them and that they must
w o r s h i p Him. Sometimes t h e y forgot. Once they m a d e Him very sad because they built a g o l d e n Calf and worship ed that, instead of worshiping God. If they h a d some thing to look at
God knew It would help them to think of Him. So He gave them the tabernacle, or house of God, in their desert journey. . LESSON STORY: Because the chil dren of Israel were traveling, they* lived in tents. The tabernacle was a tent, too—but it was a special one. God showed His presence there in the daytime in a cloudy pillar, and when Moses, the leader of the people, went into the tabernacle/ the" cloudy' pillar “stood at the door of the tabernacle.” The Bible says that “the Lord spake unto Moses face to face,. as a. man speaketh unto his friend” (ef. vs. 10, 11). At night, a pillar of fire marked the'place where the tabernacle stood, so the people always could see it. Moses talked to God about the people, and God gave him this beautiful promise, “My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest” (v. 14). .Whenever the people looked at. the tabernacle, it was to help them to do One thing: to think of their loving heavenly Father.. When we come to the Lord’s house today, we are to do the same thing—think of Him. We know He is always with us—every where—and if we love and trust Him as our Saviour, we shall find all about us things that remind us of His_ love.
and y e shall find!
