BA (Hons) in Applied Business andManagement (CIPP) Best work-based investigation 2019 Student: Sarah Deacon

The BA (Hons) in Applied Business and Management (CIPP) is an intensely challenging course. Condensing a degree programme into eighteen months, students are faced with a varied range of modules and assignments which focus on business management. The final and ultimate piece is the work-based investigation where the student must select and research a topic of their choice. It is demanding and requires careful planning, research and dedication. To acknowledge the effort and challenge that goes into the production of this work, we recognise the student who we feel has provided the best work-based investigation of the group. The marking and moderation team at the University of Derby said: “This was an excellent piece of research with clear aims and objectives. It was well-written and presented and demonstrated research far beyond the initial areas while remaining focussed. The project contained strong links to theory and an informative history of the industry. Overall, an interesting and comprehensive project.” This student has shown great determination and ability in completing her dissertation to such a high standard and we share her delight it helped in achieving a well-deserved first class honours. “I was so fortunate to have an amazing research client without whose agreement the study could not exist; better still they leftme to get on with it. “Support – never once in all the chaos of running a home and two businesses did my family or clients ever complain at me settling to study. “Change in any area of life has to come fromwithin and often, the impossible tasks are the ones worth pushing ahead to achieve. Crucially, laugh out loud or sing…whilst you may end up in a padded cell the act of laughter or singing oxygenates the body including the brain and releases endorphins.”

MSc in Business and RewardManagement (CIPP) Michelle Crook award for best MSc dissertation 2019 Student: Polly Leech-Sinclair The Michelle Crook award for best dissertation gives recognition to the student who we feel provided the best dissertation of the group. It effectively demonstrated the appropriate level of analysis between the business perspective and academic sources. The work flowed seamlessly and was enjoyable to read.” “I’m so proud to receive the award as it certainly makes all the long hours and late nights worth it! Everyone on the course did amazingly well and I’m so proud of us all for fighting through to the end; and the graduation was a brilliant celebration to be a part of.”
