If you’ve travelled via Sydney Trains within the last decade, chances are you’ve sat on a Street Furniture Australia seat.
10 Years, 2,000 Seats, Zero Replacements
Since 2015, over 2,000 Mall and Concourse Seats with Wood Without Worry® battens have supported millions of passenger journeys across Sydney Trains' metro, suburban, and regional stations. Designed to withstand heavy use, graffiti, and sun exposure, these aluminium battens —finished with a realistic timber-look grain—were chosen for their durability, low maintenance, and longevity.
A decade later, a field audit of 172 Mall Seats across 10 stations revealed no batten replacements required, minimal fading, and graffiti that could be wiped clean on-site.

“I’ve been at this station for three years and in that time, no battens have been replaced.”
A Decade of Daily Use, No Downtime
Of the seats reviewed, 86% showed no signs of wear beyond light scratches. Station masters praised the easy maintenance, typically just a quick hose down or graffiti wipe. One staff member noted, “I’ve been at this station for three years and in that time, no battens have been replaced.” Wood Without Worry® proves to be a reliable, low-maintenance timber alternative, ideal for demanding public environments where performance, safety, and appearance must endure—rain, shine, or rush hour.
