HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY In today’s veterinary practice, four generations (Baby Boomers, Generation X-ers, Millenials and Gen Z), each with its own unique way of looking at the world, are trying to work together and collaborate. Common strategies for managing in this multigenerational workplace include villainizing the “other” generations or merely tolerating their presence. It is not unusual for conflict, disagreements and misunderstanding to get in the way of practicing quality medicine. This session will help attendees develop skill sets that will allow for effective communication, not only within the practice, but also with clients, vendors and other valuable stakeholders. SETTING THE STAGE FOR LEAVING A LEADERSHIP LEGACY IN VETERINARY MEDICINE Betsy Charles, DVM 3:00 PM - 3:50 PM | Room 213 AB In order to understand how to leave a positive leadership legacy, we must first define leadership and what a new leadership paradigm might look like in veterinary medicine. Through an interactive discussion, we will work together to identify what it looks like to lead well and set the stage for equipping others to do the same, thereby leaving a legacy of leadership in the profession, no matter how old you are. THE REVERSE LEGACY OF OUR TIME- HOW MILLENIALS AND GEN Z ARE TEACHING US HOW TO SET BOUNDARIES Betsy Charles, DVM 4:30 PM - 5:20 PM | Room 213 AB If we are going to lead well and allow all members of the veterinary team to thrive, we must master the skill of setting and maintaining boundaries. The younger generations are showing us what this might look like. We must take advantage of this amazing opportunity to collaborate. We will build on the skill sets from the previous session and create individual strategies for how to put effective boundaries in place and maintain them.
