THE VETERINARY ASSISTANT/TECHNICIAN ROLE IN ENDOSCOPY PROCEDURES Michelle Hervey, BS, LVT, CFVP 9:00 AM - 9:50 AM | Room 211 This lecture will cover different endoscopy procedures commonly performed in veterinary hospitals such as endoscopic foreign body retrieval, upper/lower GI endoscoscopy and cystoscopy. Attendees will see case examples and understand the important role they play in these special procedures. The veterinary technician or assistant will be required to prepare the patient for endoscopic procedures, set up all equipment required, properly disinfect all equipment and be a vital part of patient's recovery and care. The attendees will be able to take the knowledge learned from this lecture back to their hospital and be prepared for different endoscopic procedures, know what equipment is required for different procedures, properly disinfect equipment and improve patient recovery and care. TIPS AND TOOLS OF A VETERINARY TECHNICIAN Michelle Hervey, BS, LVT, CFVP 10:30 AM - 11:20 AM | Room 211 This lecture will go over tips and tools used by a veterinary technician to make the days run more efficiently and smooth. The attendees will learn many different tips to help them with daily tasks that prepared them for the patients on the schedule for the day and how to deal with the emergency walk-in patients. There are several tools the veterinary technician has on hand to assist them throughout the day and some of these tools can be helpful during non sterile procedures. The attendees can take the knowledge gained from this lecture back to their hospital and assist in making the hospital run more efficiently and smooth for the veterinary staff, technicians, assistants and veterinarians. Attendees will gain a brief understanding of Hyperadrenocorticism, clinical signs, physical exam findings and most importantly, the diagnostics performed for diagnosis of PDH and ADH, treatment plan and client education. There will be case examples of patients with diagnosed Hyperadrenocorticism. These examples will showcase the patients on initial presentation to the hospital with clinical signs, physical exam findings, explain the diagnostics performed, treatment plan and client education. The diagnostics performed require special timed collections and handling of samples. The attendee will learn the appropriate order of diagnostics and timed tests for diagnostic testing for PDH and ADH. Attendees will be able to take their knowledge back to their hospital and be confident in assisting in collecting timed diagnostics for diagnosis of Hyperadrenocorticism. THERE’S LEAD IN THAT?! Learn about the regulation, or lack thereof, of veterinary supplements, what to look for when choosing a product, how things compare to pharmaceuticals and what resources can be used to aid in quick decision making to avoid potentially dangerous products.
