moments, like the top of the Empire State Building or a Broadway musical, but not much beyond that.

3 Dimensions can bring your family closer. As you return to regular life, the bonds you’ve strengthened can help you support one another during life’s inevitable ups and downs. 3. SPRINGBOARD FOR SUCCESS We do a goal-setting exercise on our retreats where we ask everyone to go around the family circle and share what has to happen for them to be happy with the progress they make during the next two years. We then have everyone reflect on one thing they wrote down two years earlier that has come to fruition. Their lists have included everything from finding a spouse, to starting a family, to earning a scholarship, to new jobs. Talk about an amazing payday as a parent! This is the power of setting aside an hour or so on your next getaway to put your family on a trajectory for future long-term success.

Now picture what the impact would be if you spent time goal- setting during the trip … and they’ve since reached those educational or career goals and can look back at where it all started, on your Big Apple Family Retreat With a Purpose. Those are rich, meaningful memories that last a lifetime. 2. STRONG RELATIONSHIPS One of our favorite activities during our retreats is sharing I Remember When stories. These range from funny or embarrassing moments to important life lessons learned. As everyone — even the little ones — opens up about life, it brings us all closer.

CUSTOMIZING YOUR FAMILY RETREAT HOW WE’VE PERSONALIZED OUR RETREATS WITH A PURPOSE

I recently shared the experiences my family and I had when we took a trip to Japan. It was a privilege to take our children to soak up the culture, visit historic sites, ski the Japanese slopes, and even attend church with local members (where the language barrier was surprisingly bridged by a sweet spirit of shared beliefs). It was definitely a Family Retreat With a Purpose, but admittedly, it looked different from how my parents would have planned it. MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU And this is the point I want to make: Like many of the 3 Dimensional Wealth concepts, it’s all about personalizing the principles for your own unique situation. If you’ve read “Entitlement Abolition” or attended Doug’s presentations on Family Retreats With a Purpose, you might feel a little intimidated. My dad and mom tend to go all out when it comes to planning 3 Dimensional Wealth activities and discussions throughout our family getaways.

with our kids, who range from elementary school to high school.

As they crest into adulthood, I anticipate we’ll utilize more of the 3 Dimensional Wealth tools, but for now, it works for us to plan meaningful activities and simply discuss the principles with our kids. That’s why I’m happy about the new Family Retreats With a Purpose Planner. This 3-page guide helps you customize your getaway in a way that works for you and the people you care about most . So as you get ready for your upcoming vacations, be sure to download the free tool (see the QR code on p. 1). Whether you’re an ultra-planner like my parents or a fun-with-focus family like us, you can make your time away purpose-filled AND personalized for your family.

cabin, on outdoors trips, in Hawaii, or at Grandpa’s Camp. We’ve all learned so much and grown together because of their approach. OUR STYLE OF RETREAT That said, Harmony and I are a little more relaxed when it comes to our Family Retreats With a Purpose. We schedule activities that are a mix of learning, inspiration, and fun. We talk about our family values, as well as 3 Dimensional Wealth takeaways. But we aren’t necessarily planning an hour to go through The Better Life Circle or The Solution Formulator

My family and I have loved the level of detail they go to when we get together at the family
