Three Vital'^Questions .. Answered: Whence Came Matter? What Is Life and Whence Came It? I f a Man Die Shall He Live Again? RHODES S. B^KER Attorney-at-Law, Dallas, Texas. "Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the sptces which they had prepared, and certain others with them. "And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in and found not tfie body of the Cord Jesus. "And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. . "And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said Unto them, W hy seek ye the living the dead? He is not here, but is risen. Remember how He spake unto you when He was yet in Galilee, saying: The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again." ‘ “ {Luke 24:1-7). H HIS passage of Scripture tells of the resurrection of the body of Jesus Christ. Without such res urrection of His body, there is no credible promise of a resurrection of the body of the Individual Christian and no hope for a future life,— preaching would be vain, faith vain, and death the inescapable end of all. If in His power He rose from the dead and In newness of life ascended into glory, then, truly, preaching Is "good tidings," faith Is the radiant promise of unspeakable hap piness to come, and we may Justly expect to live again after this life’s fitful fever Is past. Tliree questions, all involved in the resurrection, con stantly press upon the human mind. All of the past and all of the future is wrapped up In them. They are of never- failing Interest to the human soul. As the Individual hori zon widens, interest In these questions deepens, and because they do Illumine the fact of the resurrection, we study them. If God walks through these questions and through the ave nues of life and destiny which the answers to these ques tions open up, then all Is well. I. Whence Came Matter? The first of these questions Is: Where did we get the Earth on which we live, and the things which make up the stufT of our daily life, i.e., where did matter come from? We will first consult the scientists. They assure us that they deal with facts and that they can lead us surely. They declare that they walk by sight and not by faith. They even speak Impatiently and with tired contempt of those who do not walk as they do. So with simple trustfulness we will go to them for an answer to our first question. They tell us many interesting things, but of origins they necessarily can say but little. There comes no record of origins out of the vast remoteness of the myriad misty mil lenniums. The Greek philosophers— the scientists of their day— attributed origins to fire, or water, or air, but the scientists of our day assume a universe, already a going concern— misty, vaporous, moving, Incredibly hot, whirling, explosive— with Its laws of motion and of matter already

Rhodes S. Baker It is always a pleasure to have a layman voice his convictions concerning the truths of Scrip ture. Mr. Baker is a personal friend of many years and if highly esteemed in his home city. He gives us an unanswerable argument for the fundamental doctrines of our faith,— and par- ticularly for the resurrection of the^body of Christ and o f the believer,— from the fact that the Bible alone gives a satisfactory answer to the questions which science is confessedly unable to so\ve.

operating: but neither the ancient philosophers, nor the modern scientists, undertake to prove where fire, water, air or the universe originally came from. Molecules the “ Building Blocks” of Matter Their teachings as to the composition of matter are more Interesting than their speculations into the early history of matter. They tell us that there are primary physical units In all non-living matter. These units of the Inor ganic In any element— as, for instance, water— are known as "molecules.” The molecules, according to the scientists, are the building blocks out of which the elements are fash ioned. These molecular units all have their own funda mental differences. To build a brick the manufacturer uses sand and lime and other materials. To build water, Its
