Miss Merritt. Two hundred girls are in these classes studying the Bible. Then we have an Eteri Club that takeh care of the business women between the ages of sixteen and thirty-five. It is the only clutyin Long Beach that is organized exclusively for Bible study. We have a membership now of about one hundred fifty young women, who meet every Monday night, have din ner together at six o’clock, and after the prayer groups are over, have the study of the Bible given by Miss Glea son, the adult worker in Long Beach. Conversions, surrenders, consecrations take place here continuously. Then we have adult classes. One class has a membership of about six hundred. To this class come many tourists, as well as people who. are in the cults and drifting into Modernism. We sometimes have twenty-five states represented. Not long ago, when the invitation was given, over twenty-five women expressed a desire to enter the victorious life, and there were conver-_ sions as well, and later about twenty- five came into the churches. We want to tell you about one woman who came to the night class for both men and women on Thursday night. The subject of Personal Work had been presented over and over in the
Shortly after his release, which was some time before his sentence expired and which he said was accomplished in answer to prayer, he became a Chris tian and lived a consistent life for nearly a year. He is suffering from in cipient tuberculosis and found it very difficult to get work. He worked in restaurants, washed windows, cleaned houses, took care of lawns, did any thing he could find to do, but after awhile, the work gave out and soon his money was gone. He became discour aged, slipped again into sin and this time was sentenced to San Quentin. There he came back to the Lord. Now he is doing personal work in the prison and has persuaded another i prisoner to study the Bible by correspondence. He also sends the worker requests for prayer. This young man has found that he can, by God’s grace, live a Christian life in prison. The worker has been told by disinterested friends that his life is consistent with his profession, and that he is well spoken of by all. He earnestly desires our prayers. A Glimpse of the Long Beach Work We have three distinct departments in Long Beach for Bible study among women. The Euddia work among the High School girls, superintended by
when they entered Into their covenant with the Lord and when their happy service began. The Conference ends-:—the work goes on in the lives of the girls, for they are in the hands of the One who not only begins a work but perfects it by His power. May the dear Lord Himself bless each and everyone who contributed time, money, talent or prayer to the Conference, and may His great name be praised for the great shower of blessing He so graciously sent down upon us! In Bonds— Yet Free A young man visiting this city from the East became ill and was sent to the General Hospital. While there, the way of salvation was presented to him, but was refused. When discharged from the hospital, he tried Christian Science, but always kept in touch with the hospital worker. He fell in with evil companions, went down the path of sin, was arrested and sentenced to several months in jail. The worker visited him frequently. He admitted Christian Science could not help him. He said-there was nothing in it, but would not accept Christ because he feared he could not live a Christian life in the jail.
Was there ever such another magnificent gathering of High School girls m assembled at the recept ^uodla Gonference at Pacific Palisades, Calif. I You surely will agree, as you "look into their bright faces, that they rwresent Urn finest S n . im lriian riHhnni And thev believe in Euodia, you may be sure, for they owe much of the definiteness and vigor of their Christian character to the loving labors of Miss Mabel L. Merrill and her devoted associates “ in this really worth while work.
