4:1-3; Phil. 2:5-11), service (Rom. 12:9-16), kindness (Phil. 2 :4 ), pa tience (Col. 3:13, 14), forgiveness (Eph. 4:31, 32), gentleness (Col. 3: 12 R. V .),— all are necessary in the building of a happy home. All these are not enough, if the home is self- centered, wrapped up in Itself. It must reach out to the whole world in loving ministry. The definite effort to make other homes happy will make our own homes happy. The prayer closet, where the indi vidual member may take the problems and burdens of home to the Lord in prayer, and the family altar, where all the members may gather to glorify God together, are two vital factors to ward making a happy home (1 Pet. 5 :7 ; Matt. 6: 6; 7:71. dl4, m MAY 16, 1926 HOW TO USE THE BIBLE Acts 8:26-36; Psalm 1 Meditate in It day and night. Thus you will be assured of success (Psa. 1:2; 2 Tim. 2:16 ). Study for your self. It may be good to read the re sults of the study and meditation of others, but how much better to search the Word of God for yourself. Then the Word becomes sweet and precious to the soul. Then it strengthens and fortifies the life (Acts 17:11; 1 Tim. 4:13-15). It produces results. See. 1 Thess. 2:13. It implants faith (Rom. 10:17). It gives victory (1 John 2:14; Matt. 4 :4 ). It produces grace and strength (Acts 20:32). It protects (Eph. 6:17). It gives joy (Jer. 15:16). It gives peace (Psa. 119:165). It gives hope (Rom. 15:4). It gives light (Psa. 119:105, 130). It cleanses (Eph. 5:26 ). It sanctifies (1 Tim. 4:5; John 17:17). Mould your life by it (2 Tim. 3:16, 17). It is the only infallible rule of life. It is an accurate chart by which to sail the sea of life. Man must have a standard by which to regulate his conduct, and the Bible is the only per fect pattern. Everything that per tains to life and godliness is found within it. Meet temptation and all the assaults of Satan with it. Our Lord, in the days of His humiliation, so used the Scripture and defeated Satan. We have the same weapon at our com mand. Let us learn to use it (Eph. 6 : 17; Heb. 4:12). Memorize it. “ Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee” (Psa. 119:11). Store away the Word within your heart. This cannot be emphasized too much (Col. 3:16). Manifest its teachings (2 Cor. 3:2, 3). You are the world’s Bible, the only one that many read. Their esti-

bridge,'the highway and the earthly temple will perish, but the true tem ple (the house of the Holy Spirit) will never perish. So, how great is the work of getting men to yield to God— engineering for eternity, helping men to build on the eternal Rock of Ages, a house that by the grace of God will not fall, though the winds blow upon it and the floods beat against it. People and goods must be trans ported, and this work i§: a very import ant factor in life and an honorable and lucrative business, but how much better is the work of getting men to accept the Way to glory, of bringing them, under God, safely over the stormy sea of life, to the Haven of Rest; of putting them in touch with the great Engineer who will conduct them safely through the mountains, across the plains, over the trestles of the railroad of life. Governments are necessary, and true statesmanship is a noble calling, and true, honest, fearless men are needed, but it is a higher honor to be an ambassador of heaven, to represent the King of kings, to recruit citizens for heaven, to win votes for our great Leader. (2 Cor. 6:20). m MAY 9, 1926 HOW TO BUILD HAPPY HOMES Eph. 6:1-10 (Mothers’ Day) Home ought to be the happiest place in the world. Only Christ can make a happy home. He is the best home builder in the universe. He would brighten with the glory of His pres ence, sweeten with the perfume of His presence, and sanctify with the bene diction of His presence, if He were in vited into the home. If Christ is made the Head of the home, His authority recognized, His preeminence, His Word obeyed, His presence honored, His ability to make a happy home trusted, His counsel sought to settle all problems. His ad vice followed in adjusting all differ ences, and His grace asked to bear and forbear and to esteem others better than ourselves— then a happy home will inevitably result, regardless of poverty, ignorance and hardship (1 Tim. 6: 6; Titus 2:1-16). Love (1 Pet. 4 :8 ), thoughtfulness (Gal. 6 :2 ), humility (1 Pet. 6: 6; Eph.

MAY 2, 1926 THE TEN MOST IMPORTANT KINDS OF WORK. HOW MAKE THEM CHRISTIAN? Exod. 20:9; 2 Thess. 3:6-13. (Consecration Meeting) There is only one most important work and that is definite aggressive endeavor to win men and women and boys and girls to the Lord Jesus Christ. We may have to do other work to pay expenses, but that is incidental to the great business of soul winning. Some forms of work are important — Educational (mental and manual training); Medical (ministering to the physical need of humanity); Agricul tural (the business' ‘ of providing food ); Legal; Manufacturing; Mercan tile (buying and selling); Construc tion (building of all manner of things); Transportation (by land, sea and a ir); Political (the business of governing). But the noblest of all work is Christian work. ' It is noble to train men for the few short years of life, but in Christian work we are training the souls and spirits of men for all eternity. It is splendid to minister to the bodies of men, but the soul is of in finitely greater value than the body, . and the healing of a sin-diseased soul is greater than the healing of a body. Providing foqd- Is a vital occupation, but to give the jBread of Life to hun gry souls is still more vital. Sowing the seed, harvesting the crop, provid ing food for man, is one of the oldest and noblest tasks, but sowing the Gos pel seed in the world field and reaping a harvest of souls for eternity is far better. It is good to help the oppressed, to clear the innocent, but in Christian work we introduce men to the greatest advocate of all, and the only Mediator between God and man (1 Tim. 2:6; 1 John 2:1).. Manufacturing is an important in dustry, and has added many comforts and conveniences to man’s life, but it is far better to put men in touch with the One who has promised to supply our every need, clothing and shelter and food, as well as the spiritual needs. "Things” will never satisfy men. God, alone, can do that. Buying and selling is an honorable business, but how much greater is the honor of showing men how to obtain the garments of salvation (Isa. 64:6; Isa. 61:10) without money and with out price (Isa. 66 :1 )— to bring men into touch with God’s great, eternal and exhaustless warehouse of good things. The business of building is a neces sary work and ennobled by the fact that our Lord in the days of His flesh was a carpenter, but the house, the
