Sunday School Workers need these “Best” Books

The Sunday School Teacher as a Soul-Winner

Our Bible Institute in China (Continued from page 277)

By William Francis Berger What is the Sunday school teacher’ s task? The author believes it is with the souls of men. and proves his point well. Practically every phase of the Sunday school teacher's life is dealt with, his mind, his prayer life, church connections, social life and habits, as well as the actual teaching of the lesson. It is refreshing to find a book of this character taking cognizance of the fact of sin and the need of salvation, and which lays the empha sis upon the "loving touch” of teacher upon the heart life of the pupil. Correct method and wise plan are pointed out, but a deeper note is struck for those who are willing to pay the price, even unto sacrifice and tears. It is this that marks the unusual and inspiring quality of the book. The privilege and opportunity that God has given consecrated men and women is set forth with an appeal that will grip and stir, and it is hoped that the book will have a wide reading among Sunday school workers everywhere. ^^^_Cloth_B^*» Preparing and Teaching the Lesson A Successful Cradle Roll System By Maude H. bands are engaged through 1927 and some of them for several succeeding years. In the course of one year our evangelists and students visited 236,987 homes, and so personally presented the Gos pel to over a million people. 916,589 Testaments, Gospels and Gospel tracts were given to those interested. Several thousand definitely accepted Christ as their personal Sav iour. In hundreds of homes all idols were destroyed and a number of new churches were organized. The students attending the Bible Institute come from twenty different denominational mission boards working in twelve of the provinces of China, which thus become poten tial fields for the work of the bands. The names of these provinces, with their respective populations, are as follows: 1— Anhwei .. 2— Chekiang 3— ¡-Chihli .... 4— Honan .. 5— Hunan .. 6— Hupeh .. 7— Kiangsi 23,670,314 11,580,692 20,937,000 35,316,800 22,169,673 35,280,685 26,532,125 8— Kiangsu 9— Shansi ., 10— Shantung 11— Shensi .. 12— Szechwan Total.. .13,980,235 12,200,456 .38,247,900 . 8,450,182 .68,724,890 317,090,952 It will be seen that the smallest of these provinces has a population about twice that of California, and the largest province has a population seventeen times that of Califor nia, while the population of the twelve prpvinces whose figures are recorded herewith is nearly three times that of the United States. These figures suggest the greatness of our field and of our opportunity. From $75.00 to $150.00 will pay the salary and traveling expenses of an evangelist for an entire year. What better investment could be made? ato ato THE CRY OF THE CONTRITE n/ O blessed Saviour, hear me when I pray, Control my thoughts, wash Thou my sins away; Teach me Thy will, give me a mind to say, Thy will be done,— by me,— for Thee,— today! 0 blessed Saviour, Thou hast died for me; Thy perfect love was shown on Calvary. Thy cross, Thy crown of thorns, Thine agony Were all for me— and shall not I love Thee? 1 love Thee, Lord, despite my load of sin. I’ll serve T.hee, Lord; but cleanse me first within. Just now, O Lord, Thy perfect work begin,— Thine is the power; just now, the victory win.

Piloting the Sunday School

By E. Morris Fergusson The author i, known not only for his wide experience as a Sunday School executive, but also as an author. His latest writing is not intended so much for a text-book as his earlier and most comprehensive work on church school administration but rather for a superintendent s handbook. In a simple and interesting way, he has dealt briefly with the most important duties and problems of the Sunday School superintendent. While some of. the duties might better be handled by the pastor or a director of religious education, it is encouraging to see so much emphasis laid upon education and evangelism, as well as Sunday School extension. , _________ Cloth_$L2S If money does not accompany order, goods will be sent C.
