(2) Specific Directions for Manoah. —Chap. 13:13-14. Manoah’s wife was nof to eat the fruit of the vine, v. 14. She was not to drink wine or strong drink, v. 14; Numbers 4:2-3. She was not to eat any unclean thing, v. 14; Leviticus 11:27. She was to obey the command of the angel, v. 14; Deuteronomy 12:32. (3) Supernatural Revelation of Jehovah .— Chap. 13:15-20. Manoah seeks to retain and entertain the angel, v. 15; Judges 6:18-19. The Angel refuses to eat of his bread, v. 16. Manoah seeks to know the angel’s name, v. 17. The angel replies it is secret, v. 18; Gen­ esis 32:29; Isaiah 9 :6. Manoah makes an offering unto the Lord, . v. 19; Judges 6:19-20.

The angel of the Lord did wondrously, v. 19-20; 1 Kings 18:30-38 ; 2 Kings 2:11. (4) Samson Born and, Spirit Moved. —Chap. 13:24-25. Manoah’s wife gives birth to Samson, v. 24. The Lord blessed Samson, v. 24; 1 Sam­ uel 3 :19. The Spirit of the Lord moved upon "Sam­ son, v. 25; Judges 6:34; 11:29. Practical Points. When in perplexity pour out your heart in prayer. God responds to the slightest request. God had devised deliverance before it was desired. The method of a mother’s life means much for the child. The ideal of a Nazarite life was mani­ fested in The Nazarene. The angel of the Lord was the wonder­ working Christ. Samson was born, a son, and in some­ thing shone as the “Sun.” The Spirit stirred Samson and Samson stirred the enemies. When the Spirit stirs the Church, the Church will stir the world.
