city of the King’s palace, Babylon” were ini tended to define the city of Babylon on tne East side of the river where the King’s palace was—as distinguished from Babylon on the Western side of the river—then in the hands of Cyrus? And so I make bold to maintain that there is no real opposition between the ac counts which have come down to us of the fall of Babylon contained in the writings of the classical authors on the one hand— and that which is implied by the cuneiform inscriptions of Cyrus which have come to light in these recent years. And the words in the 5th chapter of the Book of Daniel stand unrefuted:—“In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chal- dsens slain.” ing was to be “free.” Any “Divine Healer” and “Christian Scientist” who charges a fee for his, services thereby shows the cloven foot. And how about the preacher who will declare the glorious gospel only on con dition of being paid so much? We do not hear much of most of these men after Christ’s death, but that does not at all prove that their work was insignifi cant. Most of these men were called from the lowest positions "in society. The sub stance of their teachng was to be “The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” John and Jesus had begun their ministry with the same message (ch. 3:2-4:17), and Jesus gave the same message to the seventy (Luke 10:9). We need the great Heart Specialist. Only He who made the heart can restore it to its rightful place. And God stands ready to do this. Has He not said: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.” “O heart, thou needst not fly aw ay to find thy place, God seeks for thee, if thou w ilt only stay and take H is grace, Fold up thy wings, and sit a t Jesu s’ feet, There thou w ilt find th y place, and he com- month are dated in the “accession year of Cyrus” ( Monuments , pp. 522, 523, note), showing that it was ony subsequent to the 11th of that month that the sovereignty of Cyrus was acknowledged in Babylon. In the note already referred to Profes sor Sayce writes:— “It should be added that the contracts dated in the reign of Nabonidos which were witnessed on the 21st of Ab and the 5th of Elul, were drawn up in “the city of the King’s palace, Babylon,” while on dated the 7th of Chisleu of the accession year of Cyrus is simply inscribed “Babylon.” Does it not seem as if the words “the Personality of Daniel and the Fall of Babylon (Concluded from Page 19)
