More Living-In Perks at Kappa Eta

Welcome Home, Kappa Eta-Florida! There’s exciting news happening down in Gator Country. The Kappa Eta chapter of Alpha Phi at the University of Florida in Gainesville was recently welcomed home in a big way — with a brand-new chapter house. covered patios located on the front right and left sides of the building. Outfitted with patio chairs and tables for eating and studying, as well as a few more comfortable furniture pieces for lounging.

These bathrooms on the upper levels also boast makeup/getting- ready stations, which the members love. The first floor is also home to the live-in house director's suite that includes a private bathroom, bedroom, living room and kitchenette. Additionally, there are 10 private parking spots for staff members, executive members and live-in members assigned by the chapter. “There’s also scooter parking, which the women begged for,” Kate said. “I am so glad we made that happen. I would say that is their main mode of transportation around Gainesville.”

A relatively new chapter of Alpha Phi, the Kappa Eta chapter was established in 2018. This build has been a yearslong project in the works, and as of this fall, members were finally able to move in and make themselves at home. According to Kate Kies, a manager of collegiate properties for 1872 Properties, which manages this property, the new house on SW 10th Street can occupy 54 members, and it is 100 percent full. There are 24 double rooms and two triple rooms. There are three bathrooms on the first floor — one women’s bathroom and two guest bathrooms — as well as two bathrooms on the second floor and one bathroom

Prior to this three-story house being built, Kappa Eta utilized an off-campus meeting space. Needless to say, this new chapter house is a gamechanger, particularly on such a competitively Greek campus as the University of Florida. “The Kappa Eta house certainly stacks up well against the other houses on campus,” Kate said. “Scorpio, the construction team, has built quite a few other buildings for the university and other Greek organizations on campus."
